I am pretty sure I found a decent buck bedding area last night. Here is the situation...
50 yard wide strip of old Pines running between (and like a finger) into a bunch of old cut down, scrub and random young pines. Walking the firebreak between the old pine and scrub, I found two small pines...
Maybe an obvious question, but I want to make sure I am not missing the non obvious...
So how do you do bio needs when saddle hunting (Number 1 & 2)?
1. I know the obvious is to climb down... But that is noisy and takes time away where deer can slip by.
2. I have looked over my harness...
"High" is being based on the fact an arrow that is 90 degrees to the string crosses at nearly the top of the berger hole. Add to that the rest is apparently set low, because its way more than a berger hole width off the same arrow at 90 degrees (below it). No I have not shot anything yet. Trying...
So I must have foobared my nock points at some point during my tying them or the d-loop. My arrow originally sat centered on the berger hole. Now both with an arrow and a square both are sitting at the top of the berger hole. I am thinking this is going to be a bit high.
What is the best way to...
Ha! I will be your bud... for now! :)
Look I am not spinning, but it does seem like:
1. Every response seems to be an authoritative "That is HOW IT MUST BE done" type response in the archery world.
2. Every aspect of the bow, and arrow is all - what works works. Which kind of means (1) is BS...
Not questioning your wisdom but why does everyone recommend them and all the online DIY videos show/talk about putting them on? This is where my world derails in the bow world... In the gun world, while there are some nuances to the way you may do some "things", normally you gotta do the thing -...
Its a short axle... Around 28". Can you explain why the string angle would make a difference in nock points and tying them?
I do shoot my short axle a lot, preparing for hunting season. In fact I am restringing it after a year and half because I shot it so much.
Hmmm.... Ok that is definitely something I didn't know. My rest on this bow is the matthews cable driven rest... Thoughts?
Where would one go to figure out all of the nock point to rest issues? I was lead to believe you line the arrow up centered in the berger hole and 90 degrees to the string...
Thank you for taking the time to write that. It was very informative ... I know my question is so n00b'ish, but I swear this bow stuff is like a mixture of rocket science and mysticism :).
As some of my other post have indicated, this is my first pass at some of this...
New strings on a bow.
Should I:
1. Tie a D-Loop (only) and shoot it for a while, then put a nock point and d-loop on - to let the strings break in?
2. Go ahead and tie the nock point and d-loop before breaking in...
Did I? I think I said that most of the decent leases were all gobbled up by big hunting clubs. I think I also said, right now I wanted to learn to hunt "au naturale" (i.e. public lands). Do I want to be in a big hunting club? Not really... Just like I don't do guided hunts out west - where most...
Wow you woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I am going to forego my usual sarcasm with such a phallic cephalous response...
Maybe your not up to date... Aside from the people who sell and the people who pimp game cameras a lot of the "experts" out there are moving away from them. Exactly for...
Trust me man... I know they are here. But I would bet your buddy is hunting with a club on leased lands around Pittsboro. No real public lands around here.
Getting a lease these days is worse than getting a public lands whitetail. All the nice size and wildlife parcels are all gobbled up by big hunting clubs. You can get some crappy small parcels, or ones that won't have much in them, but that is about it.
I have cameras out... Actually I have cameras out on both my own farm and on some spots in public land. I am thinking game cameras are hogwash. I have spot lighted deer on my farm in a spot I have game cameras out for several nights - pointed exactly where I have seen them, and exactly where...
