I suppose you're right, but I will need to get a bedding job and possibly barrel inletting. Thought I might as well let them install and chamber the barrel as well. But this is my first time doing any of this, and I appreciate your input. I'll have to look in to my options on this.
First, I've never hunted black bear, but I have used Barnes bullets for years now, and I would choose them over the others for the penetration they offer. Especially with the 25-06, I'm sure any of the bullets will work with perfect shot placement, but the Barnes will offer you a margin of error...
Thanks for all the input gentlemen, I feel like I'm equipped with enough information to tackle my first semi-custom rifle now. Lots of good options for the barrel have been given, and good stock choices. I've already decided to go with a Triggertech primary, so all that's left is choosing the...
I don't know how I didn't see this yesterday, but that's very helpful information. Thats a great looking rifle too, almost exactly how I pictured my barreled action looking. Love the stainless action/barrel with the black fluted bolt. I think the black bolt should accent the crossbolts in a cdl...
I think I've about decided to buy a used 700 cdl in 7mm mag or 300 win mag and get the action squared up and rebarreled to 257 weatherby. I think the weight of the wood stock should balance the long barrel decently well. Thanks for all the input guys.
I'm not at all sure what stock I want to use yet. I'm very open to suggestions if you or anybody else know of a good choice for this application. I've generally always had my factory stocks worked on (bedded and floated if necessary) and have been happy with the results. The only 26" barrel I've...
I'm probably going to stick with steel since I primarily hunt whitetails here in Texas and don't necessarily need an ultralight rifle. But I think you're right about the sizes, something around .700 at the muzzle with flutes shouldn't be too terribly heavy.
You make a good point about the threading, I currently don't have muzzle devices on any of my rifles, but I might want to at some point. Maybe a Krieger #5 or #5 plus with fluting will get me a reasonably stiff, reasonably light barrel.
Yes I should have mentioned what brands I am looking at. Krieger's numbers are what I was going off of, but Bartlein and Shilen were other considerations. It sounds like I may need to do a lot more research.
Midway is always the first place I check for almost anything I need related to shooting or hunting, and recently fishing. They always seem to have the best prices on Leupold scopes too. They're almost always within a few dollars of the cheapest prices you can find online, and they ship faster...
I'm looking at buying a barrel blank to build a .257 Weatherby on a Remington 700 action. I don't typically hunt out west, so weight is not my primary concern, but I'm not wanting a boat anchor either. I'm tentatively leaning towards a #4 contour, but I'm not married to the idea. I know I'm...
I have a Caldwell Rock Jr, which is around $40, and I have no complaints with it. Its a little short for AR rifles unless you use 10 or 20 round mags, but it will kind of work with 30 rounders. I use it in combination with a Protektor rear bag, which is really a nice bag. I can't remember the...
I'll have to verify but I believe it's 27.7 grains. My rifle and ammo are at my dad's. I'll double check it tomorrow when I go over there. There's probably faster loads out there, but this was the best I found for accuracy. The cases are Remington with cci br4 primers.
