I wanted to bump this as I’ve been looking at these as well. I’ve been using the 125gr Cutting Edge Lazer this year and have been much happier with its performance compared to Barnes TTSX/LRX, but recently stumbled across Apex. The 6mm Afterburner has me particularly interested.
I ended up going with a rail and wish I did it sooner. It has been absolutely solid. I didn’t love the currently available rail options though, so I got a Murphy custom one in Aluminum, with a shortened front rail and not as tall of a footprint. Expensive, but I bonded it to the action and it...
I’m getting the nitride, pockets and fluting done on one for the heck of it, but suspect I won’t touch the actions and bolts of my other Tikkas. Sure looks pretty cool though.
Excited to hear the LE stocks will be arriving soon and that UM is working out all the production kinks. Would love to get mine in time to use to an end of December hunt.
Strong crosswind when shooting, but I was really happy with the results. Not sure how much the wind really matters for this close anyway. Back in the saddle with the Tikka .223.
Out of curiosity. How many rounds are you shooting a year, and how often do you check torque or retorque. In my experience, oil on the screws and lots of use is a recipe for a loose screw. I’ve come to like the loctite and not worry about it.
If you mean from Stocky’s, there may have been a couple small weather events that caused some delays in general deliveries and production for many SE industries.
I’m not sure if it’s old news, but the 95 TMKs had all but disappeared for awhile it seemed. But they’re back in stock with Sierra for those who like the bullet.
My go-to is my Fieldcraft in 6.5CM with a SWFA 3-9. With a custom rail and Ken Farrell rings, it’s all-in at 6.85lb. I don’t use a sling and I’d add a suppressor if it was legal here. Even in 6.5CM, it’s a little jumpy to stay in the sight picture for spotting impacts under 400 yards for me...
