Wednesday August 16, 16 days before Sheep season.
With the other post that is running nuts, PSE somebody, I really haven’t felt like posting. Not because I am afraid of someone hurting my feelings which in reality is probably not hard to do, but more because I have been searching for what this...
My apologies for my enthusiasm earlier about focusing on the other hunt I have. Today I did my version of a mountain tough workout. Lunges, squats, and side steps with 65lbs K4 Pack and 1/2 mile run - repeat x3. Shot the bow and picked out arrows/broadhead combos at 75 yards. Probably shouldn’t...
IMO, not that you even care, is this is what is wrong with this place. It’s not a competition and I hope the 80 year old kills the biggest ram on the mountain. I hope Tag #3 shoots a ram right out from under you right before you pull the trigger. Why? Because they will appreciate the experience...
You own your own successes and failures. The only chance of failure I see in your situation is not going. Go and experience the hunt, learn and bring home memories and lessons. I hunt most years solo traveling to different western states and I really enjoy it. You also never know who you could...
I can definitely say I am not jealous of this guy and his amazing tag. That’s because I have my own near impossible to draw sheep tag but lucky for me I only had 11 pts, it’s not at 14K and I didn’t have to drop 25. One thing I have learned in my short 54 years is being humble is a rare...
What difference does it make if you draw WY or MT next year? It is probably more likely to plan for Mt next year and Wy in 2026. Get an elk tag and go

Saturday August 5th, 27 days until Sheep Season
I can believe it is already August. Time is flying and I still have a lot of stuff to do before heading west on August 27th. I got off the plane this morning from Las Vegas returning from the sheep seminar and spending a couple days in Vegas with...
I also like having both options and prefer to have forward carry while actively hunting. If successful and packing meat and horns the forward carry for me seems to prevent the rifle from hitting antlers strapped to the top of the pack.

4 weeks from today I leave Missouri and point the truck and trailer west loaded with camp and gear to do both a sheep and elk hunt. I am fortunate to be retired and able to spend several weeks out west if needed.
On Wednesday my wife and I fly to Vegas to attend the sheep seminar on Thursday...
Are you doing your own application or is the outfitter submitting for you? If he is submitting and wanting you to do the special he may be using your points to pool with their other hunters in a group application, some of which may not have as many points as you. Maybe some have more. A friend...
I would take a light weight pair of zip off bottoms and a lightweight puffy, especially if you are hunting high. For me that means something like the Kuiu Peloton zip offs and FL brooks down.

He looks awesome. Congrats again. I was sitting last night in front of my ram drinking a bourbon and holding the skull - remembering. I bet you are doing the same.

I did update my binos from Sworo 10x42 ELs to 12x42 NL Pures. Got a heck of deal from Cabelas saving me $750 plus free shipping and double points. I have wanted a pair of 12s. I put the outdoorsman stud on them and will use my Promaster tripod and head. The kids will be using a couple vortex and...
Friday, July 21st, 42 Days until Sheep season
I am in a bit of a lull. Planning is pretty much complete and I am beginning to spread out gear all across the basement. Meals are planned and family travel is arranged. A lot of gear is heading west with me since I will possibly be in the...
