What does it take to kill a grizzly?

So that’s still a no on the grizzly bear body count. Your brother killed a bear and it sounds like you weren’t present for it. And you’ve paid some guides to take you out to see animals. I can see where you might be a ballistics expert. I my intention is not to bait you here. It’s to point out...

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

So I’ll take that as a no on the whole direct experience thing.

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

First, where exactly did I insult wildlife professionals? Please go back and read my post again and quote it directly. Second, why do you think doing something that same way over and over again automatically makes you smarter? You don’t learn by doing if you don’t take time to collect...

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

I’m kind of enjoying your indignant answers here. Where exactly do wildlife biologists, or game managers, wardens, or guides get training on ballistics? Is this OJT? Is there coursework involved? How many animals do you think your average wildlife biologist or guide kills per year. Is the...

    Tikka 223 magazine feeding issues

I sent the check but accidentally paid him for the PayPal fee because I suck at following good directions. Told him to consider it a tip to support a small business and he should buy himself a good mid-strength beer. Instead, he threw in one of his 3d printed loading blocks. That gun was never a...

    Tikka 223 magazine feeding issues

Directions are good. Just seems a little wonky to pay some random guy in the US by check. It worked out fine and shipped to quickly.

    Tikka 223 magazine feeding issues

Just had three 6-round Waters 223 Tikka mags delivered. Looking forward to putting them together and trying them out. It was an expensive fix for something Tikka should frankly be doing a better job on. Dave Waters was good to deal with. Getting him paid is somewhat interesting, but everything...

    RokStok

You are correct. Even if you only add material to the front of the grip, it gets harder to hold on to. I don’t find this to be a problem with shooting, but you definitely notice it carrying and handling the gun.

Trying to decide on the viper HS 2.5-10 (which is 300$) or the leupold VX-HD 3.5-10 (which is 400$)

There are lots of Leupolds and Vortex out there. So based on sheer numbers, there will always be people who say theirs work until they don’t. And they are totally correct. But people have a tendency to get attached to brands and get butthurt when others report bad things on the equipment they...

    Why I won’t buy a Tikka

It’s apparent you haven’t really used either of these sufficiently to evaluate the difference.

    Vivo forest tracker esc durability

Yeah, I figured. Used to live in AZ and still work there occasionally. For most of what I do, it’s about what you step on. With jumping cholla, you’re not safe from any direction. I’ve actually gotten cholla joints stuck in my armpit. Not sure what you can do about that. The one thing I’ll say...

    Vivo forest tracker esc durability

I added an insole cut from oak tanned saddle leather to mine to try to keep the mesquite and cactus out. So far so good, but quail season in November will really tell the tail. One thing about that insole is that it’s slick and your toes hit the end of the boot on steep downhills. I am...

Why I would never buy a Tikka

Tikka has a lot of strengths, but customer service hasn’t really been one of them. Sorry you had a negative experience.

Why I would never buy a Tikka

That makes more sense. Sounds like an ammo thing that caused the stuck case. Any gun can stick a round into the chamber if that happens. Seems a bit premature to blame Tikka for that, but that’s your decision.

Why I would never buy a Tikka

Yeah, with all due respect, I think there is more to that story that happened before you got there. I’m guessing your brother whacked magazine on the tree while getting into the stand which drove the magazine further upward into the action and caused the second round to misfeed. But it’s like...

    Wide forefoot boots

i don’t disagree with what @Lawnboi and @Mojave are saying. The Topos have a more durable sole, but the uppers on both are he Altras and the Topos lack support for steep stuff. Like Lawnboi, I’ve switched over to the Vivo forest ESC barefoot boots. They aren’t for everyone, but they are way more...

    Vivo forest tracker esc durability

Those do not have the same beefy sole that the ESC version has. It’s thinner and more flexible. For me, I want to stay with the ESCs because the soles are less prone to punctures and I prefer a more flexible and looser heel cup.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

No expert on this, so perhaps others will chime in. The fact that you are having the same issue consistently with all magazines, makes me think you are having a mag depth issue and likely mags that are too deep in the action. I would try a tiny shim on your bottom ‘metal’ or adjustment of your...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Did it always run like this? All magazines? Tikka has been having issues with magazine springs. I’ve got mags that ran fine for a few hundred rounds and then started failing to pick rounds or nose diving rounds. If it’s not that, I would check your mag catch and floor plate inlet to see if the...
