Unknown munitions notes on their Tikka rings page that they prefer the manual(not electronic) wheeler fat wrench for scope mounting. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.
The best of the best ain't cheap, especially if you plan to shoot off it.
I use the aziak backcountry and their lite ball head. Comes in at 25oz. Works well for my binos and kowa 77. I haven't shot off it yet. Surely not as rock solid as something heavier, but I'll take the trade off for...
They would be in the trunk of a car, I hunt out of a subaru, so the space savings is a big reason for looking at these. I think the leakage could be mitigated by not using loose ice, and lining the whole thing with some plastic and keeping it upright? The flat bottom ones look ideal for that...
Excellent, thanks! I run pretty hot so I'd been thinking about a windshirt for early morning cold hikes with just a baselayer, but being able to ditch the grid fleece and combo it with a lightweight alpha layer when necessary seems pretty primo.
How do you feel these compare to a windshirt/alpha hoodie two piece set up? I just picked up a BD alpine start for a decent price based on your recommendation, and am on the lookout for an alpha hoodie to pair with it, probably the farpoint 60gm when it comes back in stock. Looking forward to...
I've got metatarsalgia. I don't know if it 'developed' while hunting, but I only ever experienced any issues because hunting is the only time I cover that much ground in stiff boots. My big toe was numb for months after one mileage intensive trip. It's mostly cleared up, but I don't think it'll...
I have the Neutrino and no regrets, but no experience with the Montbell, so I can't comment on that.
But, just for interests sake, here's some info on fill power testing:
"Fill Power is a measure of how well the down will expand after being compressed. This correlates to warmth for weight and...
Are you guys doing this as a replacement for a 'traditional' mid layer like a grid fleece? Seems like it would serve the same purpose and cut about half the weight at 4oz alpha hoodie, and 4oz for a windshirt.
Take a look at the aziak stable trek if you're just bringing binos and it's not super glassing intensive. Better than hand holding or jerry rigging something, but only a couple ounces. If you're planning on gridding hillsides all day, bring the tripod.
I doubt you'll need the solar. I brought a...
A 500ml nalgene fits about perfect in the SG large hip belt pocket. I was using a 2L bladder in the lid for plain water, and the small nalgene filled with tang and a bit of salt in the belt pocket to keep some quick sugars handy while hiking. I would like to try a shoulder strap mount, but...
I certainly wouldn't call myself a health nut, but I'm trying to pack a little healthier this season so I'm not living off pure junk food for 10 days at a time.
I've dehydrated some apples and bananas, and will have that with some peanut butter, i got a couple of the Jif squeeze pouches. I...
Your binos might have a flathead slot on the front of the hinge that you can tighten yourself. I had a set of zenrays that were super loose, and I was able to tighten them up myself. You may have to remove the cap for the tripod adapter threads to find it.
If you paid via friends and family I think you give up pretty much any protections you could have had. It's probably unlikely he was posting with his real name and location, and even if he did, I doubt calling his local police department would do much over $300 anyways. Unfortunately I think...
Nikon Monarch HGs. Matt Cashell did a review a few years back.

In a big heavy duty dry bag? The cabelas boundary waters dry bags are pretty burly. I imagine they would handle airline abuse and keep your pack all contained.
