If you want a wilderness deer and elk hunt, you could probably find one in Idaho. You’d be chasing mature critters but the trophy quality in Idaho wilderness is not high end. PM me if interested and I can give you some names.
Thanks, Robby. I think at some point the second vs. third season debate is maybe more fuss than necessary. If it's a unit that is way harder to draw for third season and there's lots of deer then I think you can still have a good hunt even if it's second season. There's also third season hunts...
Excited for you guys. He’s in good hands with pops, The Big Deer Slayer.
Given your deer success and elk being so dumb as the deer studs like to emphasize, might as well harvest by lasso and strangulation for the increased challenge. Just being ridiculous.
Get cozy with the bio. If you want I...
Agree completely. I would chose the OR or Patagonia options. Lowish cost, very rigoursly tested, and worn by many of the best of the best mountaineers.
OP, don't listen to a bunch of comments above about buying something real cheap. Your baselayer is a critical piece of the clothing system.
Just buy the Ares and be done with it if you aren't getting a Swaro or something similar. I wrote a review on the Ares and there's a ton of guys who've bought it and loved it and shared their positive experiences.
Hi all, I have a post from last year titled "Idaho Deer Hunt" where I make a limited offer to help some guys with deer and elk hunt planning in Idaho. It's normally gone pretty well in my view. I've been burned a bit by guys taking info and disappearing but that is rare and I feel good about...
What about the same question and you know both (equally bad). The 2nd season is a somewhat high end unit and the 3rd season is not. Looking for 180ish or above. Thanks.
Find the guy with the name of the area in his handle. Not going to call him out further.
From what I’ve gathered talking to guys who’ve been in there I’d shoot the first pretty decent 4 point you see.
Ive operated on a fairly limited budget because of some investments I’m focused on right now. Maven C1 or Vortex Diamondback 10x Binos are great entry level binos. If you want a spotter, the Athlon Ares is a fantastic mid range one. For everything but archery elk or highly timbered areas like N...
I am in for the draw and have a few buddies and family who I would go with and direct (not guide). My luck and their luck is terrible and defying all probabilities in recent years.
I would highly recommend a rewrite on this. It sounds like you believe you are entitled to specific information just for showing up. I’m guessing that is not your intent or you’re just unaware that Western hunting is popular enough that posting drainages would just ruin them.
I don’t believe...
I hunt all over Idaho but not Northern Idaho where it’s a jungle so there’s almost always some places where I can glass without burns. Agreed that this can be a different deal when you’re talking endless thick timber. In other states that I hunt I try to avoid the crazy thick places as well.
