Mule deer rut with bow -tactics

So many of my buddies that live in Boise hunt late archery. All they ever do is see a bunch of deer and spook the deer all around. You have to be very strategic and careful with your stocks or sit trails, etc.

    Access in November Unit 26

Sliding towards the bad side sticks with you, huh? Glad you were okay. People think flying in small planes is dangerous but I think they’re much safer than driving Frank roads. One time I met a caretaker for a mine back there. He was saying how they used to take horses in during November...

    Access in November Unit 26

Hahaha yes. Sneaky and I are very familiar with the terrible roads of the Frank and anything after mid October (and it can be earlier) is very dicey to drive over the passes. November on and you’re fairly likely to be one of the guys that has their vehicle stay there all winter.

Viper Tricks Are In the Mail!

Federal Premium. Blood trails are great. Just razzin ya, Paul.

Elk use of large lakes for water

My experience with larger lakes has been less elk than normal and more hunters than expected.

    Chatting Idaho Deer

I don’t know anything about that N ID Panhandle country. Good luck.

    Chatting Idaho Deer

Talk to Forest Service about that road question. They’re usually pretty good. From the trails.idaho.gov page you’ll be able to see which are more major roads versus not.

    Do I need a spotter

Rent one this year. I agree don’t buy one.

Is the current administration good or bad for public lands and hunting?

Agree with Buzz that it’s a mixed bag. The whole he hasn’t protected x acres of public land bit is a little misleading. Most wilderness that is near me anyways is a bunch of hard to access unproductive granite. They’re saving it from nothing for the most part because no one has any plans to...

Vortex Razor 11-33 Spotter: Solo hunter perfection or lightweight compromise?

People buy the little Razor, hate it, and sell them on here quickly. There's a pretty constant stream of them. Hard to get enough light, resolution, etc. etc. to glass well. Hardly more useable magnification than binos. Compare that to the Athlon Ares 65 or smaller Kowas that people rave about.

    Bowls and basins

Do you even hunt high country bro? #mtnops #sickforit

    Bowls and basins

Guys who hunt Alpine and plug Mtn Ops are obsessed with talking about bowls. There are good deer that aren’t in the high basins as well. Look high and low.

    Chatting Idaho Deer

My grandpa spent some time in the unit 11 country and has described it to me but I haven’t. I’m not much help. The bios in the Lewiston office are good. Guys in 11 and 18 focus on whether to hunt the top or bottom. There’s a lot of commentary out there on it. I never moved forward on the hunts in...

    Wrangler pants

They’re a great pant IMO. I’m not into skinny jeans but like slim fit and it’s basically perfect to me. Maybe cut just a little slim but NBD. I spent most of my years hunting in blue jeans and a fannel. For performance and drying the Wranglers are great but I don’t look like my grandpa which is...

Idaho NR deer tags Sold Out

Good points. Same thing with elk tags in the 90s. The Frank and other wilderness was rockin and started to have some high hunter numbers. The absence of OTC most anywhere has to have some new efforts I would imagine. Constantly evolving.

Idaho NR deer tags Sold Out

Western big game is getting pretty darn popular. OTC options are tougher and tougher.

Idaho hunting is not comparable to Wyoming. Montana and Idaho are closer IMO.

What Western State To Retire In?

The west has experienced huge growth. This thread is going to give you a bunch of misdirection because there aren't residents in any state itching for more residents to come in and add traffic and maybe try to change things. Instead, ask what is this city like and you'll get a better response...

    SKRE vs First Lite

Get some FL aerowool and pants. Buy a mountaineering jacket or two for upper layering. High quality gear and save yourself a bunch of money. Guys who’re head to toe in one brand are...you know...for many western hunters.

Anyone interested in helping a newbie "e-scout"?

No harm in asking. Be sure the guy is familiar with the habitat type. I’m not interested in belong because CA is out of my wheelhouse and I’d just be BSing.
