i killed 3 pairs, each in less than a week of use, they 're just no where near durable enough. switched over to sitka apex (no longer made), and 3 seasons in they are still going strong.
Your pal is misinformed. Some combo of this thread:

And this podcast:
will help you see that his concern about barrels only being good for one shot is nonsense.
Side sleeping comfort is all about pad thickness and keeping the pad under inflated. 3.5" thick is ok, 4" is better. But, the thickness tends to either hurt R value or add weight.
The etherlite insulated is my go to for cool-warm, also have an exped ultra 7R for when it's actually cold.
Nearly certain that the system lost zero and screwed you. Very likely that the scope shifted, but rings, mounts and bedding could all be adding additional errors.
Calibrated ballistics gelatin is intended and calibrated to provide representative results. Again, lots of work done by the fbi to figure this out and develop a repeatable testing material. They're very interested in being able to kill people.
of course momentum and KE are real. but, when you start comparing the size of the wounds made by different bullets (best done with gel tests), what very quickly becomes apparent is that neither momentum nor KE are correlated to the volume of the wound. Instead, the wound volume is correlated to...
Exodus is imo the best replaceable blade head there is. Really only iron wills can claim to be better in any way (materials).
If you want to put animals down faster, and probably get more blood, you need a bigger hole. And that means you need a mech.
How do you even use them? My local store has then, there are no directions on the bottle. How many times can you thaw and refreeze before it loses potency?
Shoot2hunt university is the perfect gift. Gives him an excuse to buy a rifle and ammo, doesn't interfere with his moose hunt, and takes place outside of most hunting seasons.
stone glacier x curve, or an exo k4 are IMO the 2 best frames going. there are significant differences in the bag designs, so think through how you pack and hunt, one or the other will be a clear winner for your style.
One of the places I hunt a lot has an elevated stand with a 2x4 sideways all the way around as a top rail. It's also very close to the parking area, so weight is not a concern.
My pint size gamechangers are too small to really grab the rail well, see photo, so I'm looking for a new bag that...
