I just saw your story and enjoyed every bit of it, also congratulations on your bull and the window of opportunity! I often feel the ups and downs of mother nature are big part of what enhances the adventure, generally it's a known factor but often the extent of Wx is way more than predicted...
One dark morning on a turkey hunt I nestled in to this perfect spot to wait for the sun to come up, after a bit I got up to take a leak and as I walked back to my comfortable spot I couldn't help but laugh out loud.......and take a picture!
I am not sure what unit it was but Kuiu just sent out a muzzle elk hunt video, 1st shot was something like 548 yds, he missed only because he didn't compensate for wind drift, the hight of the shot was perfect. The 2nd shot was over 4 hundred and he killed the elk.
I am very sure based on my...
My pointer can not be around our chickens, the reality is that he should be better trained to never chase birds but the dog has caught numerous birds in the field and it's been a major detriment at the beginning of the season.
I was in the Umbria region a few years back at an old rock house (airbnb) it was at the end of a road in the backcountry. I took hikes and found an abundance of wild boars, I didn't have a weapon but I am sure if I had a bow it would have been a very fun hunt!
That is unfortunate for your buddy to have a dad hunting with his kids invade not only his hunting space but the space of everyone all over the county or country.
Wow, I can't believe the gall of that dad, write em up Barney!
Maybe he should write a letter to the DOW about why they are...
I actually don't know of any laws pertaining to calling in animals of any kind but if calling could be construed as harassment of some kind wouldn't that also apply to hunters? hunters are not allowed to harass animals either.
I do believe that no one has a right to harass hunters or the animals...
I voted two categories, it's good ol fashion fun and inconsiderate to others with tags. Everyone has a right to be in the woods anytime they please, it's public land and just because you have a tag doesn't make you more righteous, it just means you have the ability to kill one and a guy with a...
I have no idea how to stop them but I always carry a Benadryl pen with me, a couple touches to the spot with the pen throughout the day and it keeps them from itching, works the same for mosquitoes.
I use to do the nail polish thing but this Benadryl pen is by far better
Before I got a pair of Herman Survivors I didn't have any boots but I remember being pretty darn happy with them. I guess my boot bar was pretty low, as a matter of fact the hunting clothes bar was even lower, Lol no wonder I demand high performance gear nowadays!
That's Awesome mtwarden, looks like you are well on your way to your goal!
Backpack hunting is all I want to do, I can't pack in as far as I use to but I do pretty well. The issue for me is with the distance of packing an animal out in a timely manner since I am usually by myself.
Hopefully...
I used 2" thick pine with a inlay of some black marble and did a carving pattern, even though it doesn't look like it in the pic the back board is the same thickness as the board with the carving
They are gonna be doing what they do, you just wont be able to hear them unless they are very close.
I can't go until Sunday afternoon so hopefully they won't get slaughtered before I get out there!
