    Original Prana Zion is Back!

Original or second version? I have Zions with several different fabrics but the actual og with the crappy metal webbing slide that slipped are so amazing. Once they moved to the plastic belt slide, it was all over.

Help with pants - Kuiu attack

Maybe try durastretch tweave fabric? Like the ones in the MTHD line from Tactical Distributors? Can't speak to the pants, as I don't own them, but I feel your pain on the right fabric but poor fit.

High exertion layering- merino under synthetic or?synthetic under merino

I have found merino to hold moisture a lot more, but a well designed synthetic blend can solve a lot of its shortcomings, as well as very thin fabric. What's over it definitely matters also. My goal is always to sweat as little as possible, especially in the cold, regardless of clothing...

    Boots That Don't

Synthetic can be lighter and dry faster but don't tend to be as durable as leather.

A Fat flatlander needs to help and guidance

Yes, if your goal is mountain hunting, walk literally as many minutes a day as you can, while still being able to do the same thing the next day. You should be tired from duration not intensity. The exhaustion will build up over weeks and months. You will need to have lower volume times to...

1000+ Yard, Cross Canyon, hunting hit %

My chances would be low, but I saw a guy I didn't know take an elk at about 1000 yards a couple years ago. It was impressive, and I would give him good odds based on what I saw. It was a very steep downhill shot at first shooting time.

Elk season fitness-altitude issues for flatlanders

I would recommend pedialyte and lots of water, plus maybe ibuprofen or whatever makes you feel better. Hike more slowly than you might like to at first. Obviously plan for the first few days to be a bit tougher. I usually don't sleep as well if I go up too much. Everyone's body responds...

    Finished Reading The Bible

Wow! That is cool. Think about how many different people contributed to that from so many places and times and cultures! I have learned both ancient Greek and Hebrew, and that makes it even more interesting, if you have the time! Also, this is the first of a multi part YouTube series on...

    “Do-it-all” Pad Advice

Definitely go with the xtherm if you will be out in cold weather. Way more important to staying warm than a stove or sleeping bag.

    Bullet Performance Thread

Good points! I figured if people share what happened to the animal that would be helpful. I suppose not really away of sharing pics of what actually happens inside, short of catscans...

Looking for some help with getting into shape for next year

Hunting to me is basically about going as many days as you can with a pack up big hills at altitude. Gotta do it a lot of days in a row with appropriate increases in volume and recovery periods. Diet will not do that for you. Though obviously you should eat well. This guy knows...

    Bullet Performance Thread

Thought I would try to get a thread going to share bullet pics of real world terminal performance, if it doesn't exist already? Please only post pics of bullets or exit wounds with details of gun, animal, shot, and outcome. 150 grain Trophy Copper Federal Premium Factory Ammo 7mm Rem Mag 15...

Looking for some help with getting into shape for next year

My advice is simply walking as much as you can. Volume over intensity. You should be tired from how long you walked, not how hard. Some very basic strength training once or twice a week (depending on your age) could help as well - like doing some sit ups, push ups, squats without much weight...

DIY Trekking Pole Shooting Sticks with Ski Strap

Found yet another use for the indestructible voile ski straps. Just wrap high on trekking poles and it makes for pretty decent shooting sticks.

Musings of a Middle Aged Rookie

Thanks for sharing! Echoes a lot of the experience of my first elk hunt last year. I'm familiar with being in the mountains, and I think that would be the biggest challenge for someone coming from the flatlands. Being somewhat comfortable to have energy and motivation to hunt is key.

Lighted nocks vs FOC vs arrow weight

I'm dealing with the same questions... It is hard to test everything, so any experience to share would be great. I'm currently running a total weight of 430 grains (including 100 grain kudupoint broadheads). FOC is about 11%. 70 lb, 29.5" draw. Never shot an animal with a bow, so trying to get...

Hunting gear: strictly camo or some solids?

IMO camo probably doesn't matter for almost all animals. Movement and smell are more important. Not that you can really do too much about smell. But I do own a bunch of camo because I think it's cool.

Tips for late season car/truck camping (no hot tents)

Boot, sock, and foot care always helps me stay in the game. Keep the socks and insoles in my bag by my torso overnight to dry and warm. Sleeping on the ground, a sleeping pad is way more important than sleeping bag. Don't be afraid to double up on pads, like a blue one then an inflatable. I...

    Elk in past burn areas

I have had success at an area without much pressure, that had burn a few years old, a really nice meadow, thick timber, and a water source. Not surprising! It does seem that they like to move into different kinds of areas at different times of the day. Also not surprising. Glad you are into them!
