    Maven RF.1 Rangefinder vs. ?

I’m looking for a replacement for my vortex ranger 1500. The Maven RF.1 checks all the boxes but not sure about the side dial that sticks out and it’s a bit heavy. I want angle compensating and ability to range natural targets out to 1000 yards simply to plan stalks within 400 yards for rifle...

The gutless method. Why aren't you doing it if you have to pack out?

Probably just personal preference. I find it slightly easier because I don’t need to worry about guts trying to push out around the hind quarter, back strap, or rib cage when removing meat. For some of the September elk I’ve killed, they bloat quickly creating pressure. As always, someone...

    Havalon saw blade capability

Havalon barracuta works fine to split the sternum, making it slightly easier to pull the contents out if that is your method. You might break a blade if you twist it but just carry an extra. Let the saw do the work and don’t force it. As others mentioned, don’t split the pelvis. Just pull...

The gutless method. Why aren't you doing it if you have to pack out?

I’ve done the gutless method a few times and I still find that gutting the animal first, peeling back the hide on one side, taking off the quarters/meat, then flipping over and repeating is easier. I will do gutless if they die in a difficult spot.

New to 7mm Rem Mag & western whitetail

165 gr Norma bondstrike or 155 gr federal terminal ascent. I killed a Wyoming whitetail two years ago at close range still hunting with 168 gr Berger hybrid hunter. I prefer a bonded bullet though.

Florida Fishing & Hunting in Late September

Thanks guys. Good advice. For some reason I don’t have much interest in tarpon. Redfish or grouper sound interesting.

To Peep sight or not ?

Go peep. I prefer it on my Lyman GPR. More instinctive aiming IMO. Accuracy improvement depend on how proficient the shooter is with open sights but I noticed better consistency/accuracy.

Florida Fishing & Hunting in Late September

My wife is house sitting in Orlando in late September and wants me to hang out with her for all or part of the time. Not sure I want to yet. I don’t have a hunt planned during the period but was going to try for a returned CO muzzleloader elk tag. Things that interest me in Florida are: -Fly...
