Q&A for Leupold Mark 5 Field Evals

This is reassuring to hear this stuff is making it across the globe to South Africa. I dream of a day where reliability is standard across all companies and each person can pick a scope that suits them! Though I do believe if you can't find a scope that fits the bill between the new maven, NF...

    Duplicate - disregard

Honestly with the way tikkas and "semi-customs" shoot. (Not just tikkas) I don't see how custom rifles are making it anymore.

Negative forearm is officially the new way forward. If you have to ask it isn't for you.

What's With The Tape On The Barrel?

It's too keep shit from getting in there. Water, dirt, sticks, etc. I always tape my barrel. Doesn't affect bullet impact at any distance. Pressure blow off the tape before bullet gets to it.

    Battle of the 6’s

Might as well add the 6-284 option. (Not that it'd be a good option for kids)

    6mm-284 lets hear it!

Quick Google search shows lapue in stock at multiple retailers. I'm not saying it's more available than prc, I am saying it is available enough to not be an issue.

    6mm-284 lets hear it!

6.5-284 brass is very easy to come by.

Caliber Battle: 6mm ARC vs 6.5 Creedmoor for Deer Sized Game

I'm half tempted to spin off the wife's 6.5 creed barrel for a tikka take off 243.

Fast twist 25 cal real world data

That seems awfully slow, what powder?

Caliber Battle: 6mm ARC vs 6.5 Creedmoor for Deer Sized Game

I refuse to accept the fact that the 243 is out of style. There's not alot you can't do with a cheap factory 243 and some 95 grain pills. I won't argue that the 6 creed isn't better, but man we have had the best sub-500 cartridge around for years

    6mm-284 lets hear it!

I personally, combined with good friends have used a total of 6 "pre-fits" all with excellent results. 3 were proof carbon barrels, 2 were preferred barrels, and 1 was a factory take off from another tikka. They have all met expectations and have all shot well, especially my personal 25...

    S&B lost zero x3

Before you send it in, check that your rail has not loosened. A friend of mine had a SWFA that was consistently losing zero and each time it was 1-3moa higher than it should have been. Turns out his loctited rail screws had loosened and the recoil of the gun had started to bend the screws. This...

    6mm-284 lets hear it!

I was seeing the same info you were, most of it with lighter bullets, longer barrels varminting type rigs. I saw some charts from blackjack bullets that gave me the confidence to pull the trigger on a fast twist 25-284. After the numbers being what I expected I'm confident enough to take the...

    6mm-284 lets hear it!

If you want/need any load data info I could give you a starting point. For the 25 I settled on 54g of h1000. I'm betting you could start at 53 grains and work up from there for the 6-284.

    6mm-284 lets hear it!

I tested up to max with h4831sc and h1000 in my 25-284. I got ~100fps more with h1000 and I am able to hit pressure before I crunch powder. If I didn't have such a good load for my 25 I'd be tempted to try n570 or retumbo. However, I do not tinker when something works well. That said, with the...

    6mm-284 lets hear it!

I'm thinking it'd be about 150fps more than the 6 creed. That's the difference typically seen in between the 25 creed and 25-284. Also there's some guys on other forms that have built them based on the 108 (my intended bullet) and they are getting 3350 out of 26-28" barrels if I recall...

    Backcountry “Jerry Rig” Setups

Probably doesn't count as Jerry rigging but I had a strap break on my mystery ranch during a day hunt. Because it was only a day hunt i didnt have extra paracord or other means of strapping my deer head on. I was in a hurry considering it was 90 degrees and I wasn't going to let the loose velvet...

Caliber Battle: 6mm ARC vs 6.5 Creedmoor for Deer Sized Game

Yes, I can spot my shots in a factory tikka with a Suppressor and a heavy barreled 14lb gun suppressed. The big gun takes no effort
