I went after it 5 days a week from the 29th to the 16th of sept, then the real world called.
Got one morning of bugles on the 3rd of September, but that was it until the 13 or 14. Had two going that day.
I'd see activity sign from the night, but never saw an elk moving after 45 min after...
Brain tanned more than a couple deer hides in years past.
It'll get thinner as you scrape and stretch. Assuming he'll want a buckskin, not keeping hair on.
There are lots of workshops and classes out there, at least in the parts of the country I'm familiar with. I'd probably recommend taking...
I'm farther north, Bonner county. Roads are clear, sunny, but a little windy at times. Cold is relative, currently in the mid or high 20s. My place is at 2400' or so, don't even have what is call ground cover of snow.
Wouldn't be surprised if there's more snow in areas on the st Joe.

If you plan on hunting anything close to backcountry, your bow or rifle is not the gear you should focus on most. Boots, pack, knives, weather gear, etc...will make or break a good hunt, especially if you kill something.

You can't go back 30 years, but IDFG keeps harvest stats going back to 2001 or 2002, I think. (That's pre wolf, btw) Especially for elk, it's always been hard here in the panhandle if you don't have an alfalfa field.
The truth is, hunting was easier 20 years ago. All other details aside, I was...
I just saw your P.s. not sure if you've added it, or if I missed it before.
People have been saying CDA IS "ruining the panhandle" for all the decades of my memory. It's a town, with good and bad like any other. I've never lived there, but have plenty of experience.
As for wolves, they're...
Haven't made the move, but I'm born and raised in the hills of Bonner co.
The hunting here has changed, especially over the last 10 years. Large influx of people on top of the things that are probably universal like mapping technologies and the proliferation of social media influencers. If you...
Sorry for being unclear. I was annoyed, and didn't communicate clearly. I have no issues with the guy who is selling. I paid him, and he told me the timeframe he'd be shipping it in.
This morning, I got messaged by someone else, providing their a phone number, acting like they're selling the...
Not a big social media guy. Joined this to read, maybe ask advice and opinions. Then found the classifieds and bought something. Well, paid for, have not received. Now got a message from someone else saying they'll sell it to me. Contacted the person I sent money to, he said to report it to...
Family is part of what's having me look at blue ridge. Maine would be closer to them than where I am now, but still a bit of a trip. Also, if I do relocate, milder winters might be nice, rather than harsher ones.
I don't go after muleys very much. The population here isn't very large, but...
My mistake, and my apologies for misremembering and mischaracterizing that part of your comment. I'm cutting firewood, responded while gasing up the saw. Didn't bother to take the time to re read what you had written.
I stand by the rest, though.

But not in the mountains?
I could see that being something that would take getting used to. Some folks hunt cars in my home unit with dogs, but that's it. When I go south a bit there are people hunting bear with dogs, which always catches me off guard.

As I stated elsewhere, Asheville will not suite me. I also do not live near Cda.
Around here, conservative candidates and office holders are pushing to privatize our public lands. So, I assume as a fellow hunter you'd never vote for a conservative. See how that works?
While I appreciate your...
