Dialing is certainly possible but probably unnecessary for 400 yard shooting. In almost 50 years of eastern hunting, I have never needed to do so. I am more concerned about having a reliable scope. That seems to be an issue with many folks. I had no idea so many modern scopes were so unreliable.
There's nothing wrong with older steel rings, as long as they are in good serviceable condition. Sometimes they are better than new rings. Leupold rings are a good example. I will not use their newer rings for any reason. The older US made ones are good. Warne rings are great, but not as...
This thread reminds me of a time years ago at the National Gun Day show in Louisville. Several of us went to a Japanese restaurant on Saturday night. While waiting, we got into an argument about the capabilities of the various types of Loctite (we had the colors confused). As it turns out, a...

I am in absolute agreement. I don't think my SLC's from 2005 are any better optically than my UHD's, but neither would likely be up to par with the top...
I think you get what you pay for in this business. I had no idea optics failures were so prevalent until joining this forum. The primary failure I have experienced is intermittent fogging in the old steel tube Weavers I used for many years. An inexpensive optic is more likely to fail...
I have never tried Mavens, but reviews suggest the two optics are comparable. Whether the UHD is worth the extra bucks is a personal decision. I own, use, test, buy, and sell alot of binoculars. Zeiss, Vortex, and Swarovski binoculars pass through my hands on a regular basis, along with...
I have used IMR 4064 with 168gr match bullets for years (Sierra accuracy load). IMR 4895 works well also, but is a little faster. I am thinking the old LC Match 173gr? was loaded with 4895. I use CCI BR primers.
The warranty explanation on the website seems less confusing and says to contact Swarovski North America for more information. Upon closer review, the one Svivian posted does suggest the optical system has a lifetime warranty to the original owner. I see no reference to whether the warranty is...
Based on the Swarovski website, if you were to buy a new pair of NL's today, my 2005 SLC's would actually still have a warranty for two years after the NL warranty expired. I know Swarovski normally extends coverage, but it should be taken into consideration if contemplating the purchase of a...
I have read all sorts of opinions on this. Obviously, some of the Vortex binoculars look virtually identical to Mavens, who are apparently made by Kamakura. Maybe its a deep dark secret??
I agree and generally prefer the 8X for the aforemetioned reasons and usual eye relief advantage, since I wear glasses. I have a pair of 10x50 SLC's that are certainly larger and heavier than the 10x42's , but the extended eye relief was my deciding factor.
Vortex is the only company I am aware of that offers a no questions asked lifetime warranty on rangefinders. I wouldn't even consider purchasing anything else.
