Im headed out there with a buddy this fall as well. First time. Super nervous about hunting pressure. Its going to be a tough hunt. But I think that is going to be the story with just about every general hunt this year. From the people I know who have done it successfully its the same story...
I drew a late rifle tag, and as of a few days ago there is a fairly large fire that is burning in the areas I had escouted. Ive hunted 2-5 year burns with great success. Any thoughts on first year fires? I don't know how hot it is burning but it is in a mountain/desert transition unit. Is it...
I am by no means a expert at archery, but I shot what felt the best at the shop (bought mine off eBay). I wanted a bow that I can draw, and let down with a super slow motion with no jerky movements at 70lbs. The 2016 defiant is the one is settled on. Also felt good after the shot, and held well...
I shoot the Montana Black gold. 3 pins on a slider. 20, 30, 40 are my fixed with the dial all the way up. Past 40 im not making quick adjustments without having to let down first.
I haven't used one on a hunt, but on a camping trip in CO I used a hammock setup. Tyvek tarp with rocks for substitute grommets for my shelter. The hammock was a double wide from costco. Then I just laid my cheap thermarest pad and mummy bag in the hammock. I got it bowstring tight before I laid...
Overall I do really like the head. It tuned great, and it stood up well to the Hawaiian lava on pass throughs. My hits were solid double lung pass throughs. I did have a axis doe heart shot that looked like it got blasted with a 338 lapua. I just didn't know if that was the exception as the...
With my new hoyt setup I decided to try the slick tricks. I hunted Hawaii this past winter. Shot a lot of animals, but on solid shots on pigs and goats I got minimal blood trails. I'm concerned about this because I want to use them on elk and mulies this fall. Anyone else have this issue?
I have a extremely high probability of drawing a mule deer tag, in the same unit I also have a high chance of a elk tag. Both archery. It's a lot of dark timber with some open meadows. What's the best way to approach hunting them in the dark timber? Ive whitetail deer hunted in the national...
Thanks for the input! I just used them in the BWCA wilderness here in MN. High 70's and I liked them. I am looking forward to using them this September.
VPA small game thumpers for me. Very accurate, and kill fast. Shot a rabbit last night(eating the garden), and it went at most 5 feet. Kill grouse fast too. Im bringing 6 SG arrows to CO this year.
I use Yeti and Ammo meal replacement. Ammo is by far my favorite, it has natural ingredients and actually fills me up. I haven't had a shake actually be a meal replacement that filled me up. As for yeti, I haven't noticed a huge difference between it and some of the other pre-workouts ived used...
Went to Cabelas last night and picked up a set of Sitka Mountain pants last night for 110. Couldnt pass them up. Not a huge sitka fan, but this was to good of a deal. What is your guys opinion on them?
Has anyone had any experience using king size pillow cases as game bags? There are some other forums with mixed feelings on them. Ive used them for deer, but not on an elk yet.
I hunted the Lemhi zone last year during the archery season. We found them quite easy to pattern, but was very difficult to get close with the archery equipment. First and last light are the key. Definitely feeding in the ag fields during the night.
