If I am solo butchering, it definitely takes me a long time. But with 1 or 2 friends that take the same care as I do, it goes 3x faster. We set up so we have a processing line. One person does the deboning (if necessary), major breakdown to quarters, hair clean up, and outside silver skin...
Loper - to answer your question:
Cutting out Soda was fairly easy at 13 YOA and after a while I never missed it. Honestly, I probably wouldn't have stopped drinking it if I wasn't getting nose bleeds. Within 5 minutes of drinking half a can, my nose would start gushing blood. Didn't matter...
I would have never imagined that a CWD discussion would result in such a wide and deep division of opinions, arguments, anecdotal evidence and claims. It definitely has fallen into the hot button topics category along with politics, the source of COVID, vaccinations and other divisive issues...
I have mostly drank water for over 40 years. I stopped drinking soda at 13 as it would give me nose bleeds. Never touched that stuff again.
Occasionally, I will have a beer or two. That only happens once a month. I don't drink hard liquor, coffee, milk or tea.
I cut out candy 25 years...
Carry heavy duty wire cutters or cable cutters as part of your dog kit. Getting a dog wrapped in barb wire or caught in a snare is a nightmare without good cable cutters. Leatherman sometimes works with a lot of grip strength but not for aircraft cable used for snares.
+1 for the 4 dog stove. It is heavy at 55 lbs but for late season in a wall tent, nothing beats it for long burns and heating large tents.
I did buy a Knico Alaskan, Jr, which is much lighter. I got the Knico for Spring and Early Fall hunts since the 4 dog typically burns me out of the...
i understand. It was not any criticism that anyone did anything wrong. I had somewhat of a similar situation on a sheep hunt chasing some sheep on a knife ridge that was just as steep. I was below the ridge on the other side of the sheep and had to pass in front of a large boulder. There was...
Yep, use mine when calling yotes as well. I will have to check out gray wolf woolens. Sometimes, I put a hand warmer inside my boots on top of my foot. Not great for long
walks but works well when just sitting.
A good pack boot is not like Sorrels. Look at Hoffman's pack boots or Schnee's. I have Hoffman's and while I wouldn't want to climb rocks with it, when it is below zero temps and the snow is deep, it does reasonably well on side hilling. I also use mine for ice fishing.
Yes. My feet stay pretty warm on the walk-in. Once I get to the stand, I put the booties on over my boots and take them off when I leave. They are too noisy and cumbersome to walk in. They also double as camp slippers when I make a midnight run.
Thanks, jjohnson! It is my favorite rifle. I went through the mental gymnastics of thinking about buying a new rifle but realized it was more of a want than a need.
I agree. GG is better for timber. Longest shot I have taken in timber is 65 yard but most of the time is is 30 to 40. If you do it right, they are close.
While I have 30-06 and 300 Win Mag, my go-to rifle is my Ruger M-77 tang safety in 270 Win for Elk, Deer, Antelope and Sheep. I started out with handloaded Nosler Partitions in 130 gr but now shoot Barnes TTSX. It has killed a lot of Elk and only a few took a second shot just for piece of...
I second "hereinaz" on good glass and avoiding fancy dials under 350. 300 wm will easily shoot point blank into vitals without a hold over so no need to make it complicated.
It is easy for things to go from great to bad in a second. Glad you didn't get seriously hurt.
I leaned that when going down a slide or cliff, never follow directly in line of the leader and if in the lead, have the follower off set to the right or left (or wait until I reach a flat area...
