    Day hunt vs backpack hunt

Last year I did one of each. I got a lot better sleep at the base camp at my truck. Packing in is a challenge and a lot of fun, but I feel like you're really committing to a certain area. Last year the pack hunt I packed in with a friend who'd never packed in and we went several miles in to a...

Time is up and I left him on the mountain.

Hope you get him and hopefully it's cooler there then here in Oklahoma

Time is up and I left him on the mountain.

At least you saw the kind of buck you were after. I've had more then one hunt where I didn't even lay eyes on the size of animal I was after. Very nice pictures! That's a really nice buck!

    Bad Unsolicited Advice

Yeah he's a felon and doesn't even know it. You have to have your form 1 filed and returned, your serial number with your name and information engraved into the suppressor before you can even drill it out. I did a solvent trap rimfire can several years ago. I bought suppressors from...

    Lower back strengthening.

I had some lower back issues so I started focusing on it several years ago. Get an inversion table and keep it stretched out and you can also do some ab work while hanging. Kettle bell swings, 6 inches, Superman exercise, leg raises and planks. Do these things a few times and week and you'll be...

    Altitude sickness question

I read about it last year before a hunt and almost got worked up about it beforehand because I read about it. I was going back to an area I had hunted where we would camp at 11K but the first time I went I had no idea about altitude sickness. Honestly the only thing I've noticed is the...

    Colorado Muzzleloader Mule deer tips

How much time did you allow yourself for a combo hunt? I always worry I would try to do both and end up doing neither as well as I should.

    DIY mule deer

I’ve hunted a few units in NM. Anything that has 97% draw rate in NM is going to be rough hunting.

    Utah- what the hell?

They need to sell the land so they have more money to give to Ukraine. Not like we have a 34 trillion dollar deficit or any issues at home. They're doing great managing our money thus far, I'm sure all the proceeds from a land sale would be used wisely 🙄

Have any of you thought who gets your stuff. Or do they even want it

This is a main reason why I stopped having things taxidermied. I only do euro mounts anymore. Who the hell wants to deal with a ton of mounts that they didn't kill? Maybe one or two monsters but nobody wants ten or twenty shoulder mounts that were only significant to the person that killed them...

    1 month training

I did a ton of heavy rucking up until a few years ago I started having an issue with my heel and ended up being plantar fasciitis. I have to walk 8-10 miles on concrete floors 3-4 days a week, so I only do my rogue air bike and weight lifting 3-4 days a week and do different circuits. I did...

Spotting scope in the 1K price range.

I had a couple different Vortex razor scopes, one in 65mm and the other was a smaller 50mm. The bigger one seemed too bulky and I didn't want to carry it most the time and the smaller one really wasn't as useful as my swaro binos. I sold both of those and picked up a used Leupold gold ring...

    Short bed truck sleeping?

I did a similar setup in a sand hills unit in NM last year. I ended up dealing with mosquitoes at night and hordes of flies during the day. It made for a long hunt.

    What buck are you taking?

I'd be happy with either one but the top looks to be more mature. Good luck.

    Reminder: Mountains will kill you

It would be a shame to get killed looking at a forkie. It would make it seem less of a waste if it was a toad right?!

How to not die on first trip?

You have a better chance of dying on your drive to work. Don't overthink it, but it's good to be prepared. Solo hunts can seem strange at first because things are better when shared with others but it's still worth doing. Hope you have a good time.

    Justice finally served in Utah

Sounds like if they're not a member of the initial hunting party then it is considered canned. From reading the release I would assume that even if the hunter is in camp while the guides are treeing a cat a few miles away and then calling the hunter, that would fall under this definition. I...

Tell me why I shouldn't move to wyoming...

One thing you could look at would be a partial travel job with your skill set. I know that's not ideal with your boys age but it could get you there sooner. I work for a bottling company and started with the technical engineering team. You would have a travel day, 8 days on site, travel day and...
