If I could sit on the back deck with a tripod and take my choice between the 15x56 Swaro SLC and an astronomical binocular like the Oberwerks BT-100-SD for terrestrial views from distant mountains to nearby birds and for astronomical views of the moon, which bino would I fall in love with? The...
I want to compare the performance of various optics—rifle scopes, spotting scopes, binos.
There’s a lot to consider.
#1 The “seeing” on any given day (or hour) will be different. I would like to digiscooe these comparisons for future reference, but for the archives to be at all meaningful I...
maybe I should not have said "hunting" scope. I just used that phrase to mean a scope without expensive dial-a-shot turrets.
This scope would be for shooting targets not game.
I trust myself and an etched reticle more than I trust myself and turrets.
Is a reticle like a Horus or EBR-7C available in a hunting scope? With a reticle like that I do not use the turrets. But I haven't seen that reticle available on a scope without nice, adjustable, long-range, PRICEY turrets.
I read an article by some military types. They said something magical happens above 2200fps. The wound channel behaves like a laceration, and bleeds profusely. Maintain velocity above 2200 fps through the exit wound and you should have an exceptional blood trail to follow. If I tried this...
FNG from Ohio. New here. Old otherwise. FYI I’ve used this screen name on other sites for more than ten years and it was born of Corona beer not the Corona pandemic. BTW, I was pleased to see a Corona beer commercial return to TV recently. They’ve replayed the old one with the Christmas lights...
I am a BOA fan. My BOA system is on a pair of Irish Setters. (That is a Redwing brand.) My greatest complaint is that when a BOA boot comes out, it gets discontinued in a year or two so it’s tough to find reliable feedback before the boot becomes unavailable. Hopefully that will change as BOA...
I like to use a hunting vest instead of a small back pack for day hikes on local trails and on the farm. I have a standard cotton duck canvas redhead with a big, easily accessible, lined game pouch and maybe a half dozen pockets on the front. It ain’t perfect but I like it better than a day...
I need an archery backstop. I’ve thought of using used conveyor belts but that has been hard for me to find. I thought of using hay bails but people tell me that always leads to injured livestock or wildlife. What are some good solutions?
