Nightforce atacr 4-16x42 vs NX8 4-32 for long range hunting

As mentioned, I also had to return one for a side focus/parallax issue but it was fixed quickly and free of charge. I use it all the time to shoot to 400yds with my .22LR and it works great: it dialed accurately, returns to zero, and the parallax adjustment is GTG. I've used it in endurance...

    Big Binocular Options

15x binos are my go-to for any long range glassing session, from long sits on a hunt to spotting/ROing rifle matches. A good tripod is a must; I am firmly in the RRS with anvil camp because they are really good kit and should you need it, have great CS. For almost all other uses I carry an 8x42...

    Which bullet

Pure numbers? I think it's a bit of a wash as far as drop, drift, and retained velocity/energy between the two. Drop is within a few tenths, wind a tenth of two, and energy 100 ft*lbs. So as far as making his goes they are pretty equal. Elk alone at 800yds puts me into the 180gn bullet, ELD-M or...

How to mount red dot for dmr

Yes, it's harder over the top than with an offset. I also usually have a RAPTAR-S or PALS on a diving board so I can't run a dot there even if I wanted to. Normally, with a LPVO I am at 1x and it is faster but if I'm already mag'd in and it's a quick transition the offset is faster. Also...

How to mount red dot for dmr

I'm not sure where that project is. It did not achieve what it was supposed to and we are definitely nowhere close to fielding it as far as I know.

    243 - 1:8 twist bullet recommendation

I'll second the Federal or Berger loaded with 95gn Hybrid. I don't use them anymore but the 95gn Ballistic Tip worked well for me also

Nightforce atacr 4-16x42 vs NX8 4-32 for long range hunting

The locking turret is nice on the ATACR but not necessary. All my ATACRs at work lock but my personal scopes do not. Those turrets will not easily move on you with either sight. The ATACR will have a more forgiving reticle viewing area and the 4-16x42mm is one of the best scopes made. The 1-8x...

How to mount red dot for dmr

I have guns set up like that in .223/5.56x45, .308/7.62x51, and 6.5 Creedmoor

    Thermal clip ons

I'm not familiar with that clip on but I use units that cost more than some cars and depending on what it is, some will only work pretty well up to the 4-6x range and some (like INOD and better) can do quite a bit more. You could move to a MPVO but you might not be able to see any gain with it.

How to mount red dot for dmr

I use them for work and competition where, in both cases, distances can change rapidly and it's faster to slightly roll my gun and use the dot than power down my scope. It can also help me line up a shot in places where finding a landmark is difficult.

What is your favorite long range rifle setup?

I still use the Rem700LA action from the first rifle my dad bought me. It's still a 7mm Rem Mag but cut with my reamer into a Krieger barrel CF wrapped by Frozen Fiber, sitting in a Manners LRH with Hawkins Oberndorf bottom metal and modified inlet Area419 ARCALOK rail. If I'm shooting a can, it...

How to mount red dot for dmr

For a lot of reasons, I use a 1.93"/35° offset but lower height is fine as is 45°.

    Nightforce NX8 2.5-20f1 versus 4-32 f1

When these came out Sean at NF brought one of each for me to look through at a PRS match. I was looking for a dual purpose LR hunting and NRL22 optic (needed close range parallax for paper stages). They weigh the same, are close enough in length, but the 4-32x looked better to me and was his...

    New poster

I've been intermittently lurking here a couple years but I don't usually engage in active use of forums. I'm busy enough I don't have time for it but I guess I have to in order to become a party member. I've been on the East Coast since 9/11 and can't wait to leave, I've missed a lot of falls in...

    Mobile stand setup 2023

I'm generally a ground hunter because I'm a Westerner who's been banished to the East Coast since 9/11. Stand hunting generally bores me to tears.I have learned to apply what I know about being mobile to where I hunt now. I'm also a climber so ropes and saddles make sense to me for weight and...
