    Boiling water at high altitude

You are correct, water won’t boil any hotter with more heat. The fix is to cook longer. At 7k ft where I used to live, everything took longer to cook. Just adjusted cook times. Had to readjust when I moved to 900 ft.

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

This doesn’t address the hypothesis of using a heavy for caliber match bullet in smaller calibers. If the smallest cartridge used is a 270 win, Phil has never tried a 77g tmk in 223. How can he offer any input on if it works or doesn’t work?

    Dishwasher replacement questions

This. Took a bit to figure out loading as it is different that the typical rack style. Also have to run the longest cycle to get the dishes dry. No heated dry. Quiet and works well. Would buy another.

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

The same argument again. The hypothesis is that a heavy for caliber bullet in 22 or 6mm will do the job in harvesting animal X. Lots of people argue other calibers are needed to do the job, yet few offer any examples of the original hypothesis either working or failing. You don’t disprove...

What is the best current .357 Lever action?

Marlin jam can be an issue, but it also can be fixed. It is a timing issue and there are several sites showing how to either bend the lifter or to insert hardened material if you have an issue. Btw the Henry is a copy of the Marlin. I have a remlin Marlin 1894 and it was awful out of the...

    AB Raptor suppressor - Reflex

The crazy part is none of the paperwork shows the reflex as the length listed on the form 4 is without the reflex. Also reflexes are not serialized, so unless AB keeps great records of which can has which reflex, there is no way for the ATF to know what you should have.

    AB Raptor suppressor - Reflex

When I swapped mine they wanted the whole can. Would not just send a reflex. Same as when I swapped baffles in my JK. Had to send in the whole can.

What subsonic straight wall cartridge for whitetail? Not 45-70 or crossbow

Other than being 35 cal, 360 buckhammer is basically a 375 win case. Problem with the 35 cal is rifles are not fast enough twist for heavy subs. Only way to up energy is more weight, in 35 cal, the subs from maker are just over 200g, same as a regular bullet. Only advantage is they open up...

What subsonic straight wall cartridge for whitetail? Not 45-70 or crossbow

I would use maker expanding copper subs 400 or 500g in the 45-70. The bullets are so long that a shorter case should have no real effect. Could probably just cut down brass and use in a regular 45-70 chamber. Note Hornady already does this a little for the ftx bullets. Brass is shorter so...

The results are in: 2024 Silencer Summit Sound Test

The generally accepted limit for immediate damage is 140 db. 130db gets you 10 shots per day, 120 gets you 100 and 110 gets you 1000. Most good bolt gun cans get you under 140 and maybe under 130. Db is actual pressure waves dbA is a weighting that is said to more closely mimic what the human...

    Hunting with a Shotgun Suppressor

Considering shotguns are for dynamic shooting, I expect a silencer changes the handling of a gun a lot and in a bad away. With that said, I think you could design a gun/silencer system that would work. But it’s not as simple as bolting one on like on a rifle. I have considered doing a form...

    Is this legal?

If in Colorado that could be a big deal if they don’t have the water rights.

    Best can for a ,223?

I went with the AB 30 cal A-10 for a 223 can. Still in jail, but I expect it soon as my dealer closed a month ago. It’s a 7 stack vs the 556 can which is a 5 stack. I expect a bit quieter than the 556 as it has more volume even though it’s bigger bore. Only $30 more than the 556 version.

    LPVO vs Red dot

Hunting Iowa, I am using 35 whelen and 45-70. Both have magnum level recoil with shorter ranges. I looked for lpvo’s and most were around 2” eye relief. Not enough for me.

    LPVO vs Red dot

The problem I found with lpvo’s is they all have short eye relief as they are designed for AR’s. On magnum rifles they don’t offer enough and I am pretty sure I would get scoped. I did find one red dot that’s a 2x. Going to try it for the deep woods this year.

What type of shotgun for upland birds?

Cheap o/u and sxs are cheap for a reason. My stoeger sxs is poorly regulated with a measurably different poi for each barrel. It’s ok as it’s my sass shotgun and targets are 10 yards away. Would not want to hunt with it. The poor quality is why there are lots of the cheap, ie sub 500 break...

The results are in: 2024 Silencer Summit Sound Test

I for one like the data the summit is generating. The methodology may not be perfect, but it is consistent. It also shows not a single ar shooting 556 gets under 140 db at the shooters ear. If you do an A weighting they squeak in just under 140. While we assume that is the safe limit of...

    WTB Single Shot Straight Wall

Where are you located? I have a few I might part with barrels and/or frames, but they are pistols frames, so don’t want to deal with shipping. Barrels, 445 supermag (encore), 45-70 20” rifle (contender)

    Suppressor wait times

Congratulations. The process for trust must be very different as I have been waiting 27 days after my dealer closed their doors (requested an expedite so they can truly close) and 6 days since I have had a different form 4 approved. That suggests they simply can’t process a form 4 in a week...
