28 nosler vs 300 wby mag

Many more options for ammo with 300 BEE, check Midwayusa. Not sure if you are shooting with a brake or not but the recoil of both calibers is significant. I would classify the recoil of the 300 Bee and very stout! The 28 nosler not too far behind. Both are more than enough for elk and I do...

Crispi boots. Insulated vs non insulated

I wear crispi nevadas uninsulated. I run cold but with an all leather boot I rarely need insulation if I am somewhat active and not sitting for long periods. Insulated boots limit your versatility for multiple seasons.

    Best Binocular Harness

Had the AGC but found it very difficult to use one handed when spot and stalk with direction of opening. Went with the Marsupial and love it. The magnet keeps the lid out of the way and can access the binos one handed.

    Turrets or no-turrets?

450 yds. I keep it simple and have hunted for years with standard leupold vx3 plain duplex reticle. With a 250yd zero in most standard calibers, (270-300winmag) I can use the top of the bottom post to aim dead on at 400 yds, top of back at 450. Obviously there is some variability in caliber...

    Cabelas insulator jacket?

I bought one on sale at Cabelas and used it all last season through December. I would agree with the post above, it is a great bargain, incredibly warm and light. The only negative is the outer material is a bit thin and I did get a small tear but overall a great value. Can't say the same for...

    Choosing Merino Wool Base Layers

I tried Black Ovis merino and although it was durable, it was itchy. Spent the extra $25.00 and went with first lite. Incredibly comfortable. No comparison.

Prana zions vs Sitka ascent pant

I have never had zions but once I tried sitka timberline and ascent pants with knee pads I have never gone back. I wear a lot of first lite tops but nothing but sitka with knee pads for pants. They are a life saver and if you have had knee surgery, you will love the ascents with knee pads.

Tough backstrap; can I fix it?

I ALWAYS dry age in the fridge for 12 days. Seran wrap will keep top layer from drying out and it will always be tender with no gamey taste. Soak in milk for 12 to 24 hours works as well.

    Pants like Prana Zion

Wrangler Outdoor ... $27.00 at Walmart with same basic material as pranas. I have not had any durability issues as I wear these a lot antelope hunting. I can buy 3 or 4 of these for one pair of prana or eddie bauer.

    Looking to try out firstlite

The catalyst is not for cold weather stand hunting but rather more early season as it is fairly wind resistant and very quiet. I would go with the solitude which is specific for your requirements and use the merino base with sawtooth vest or jacket for early season. The uncompahgre is not very...

Best down puffy. That's actually warm

Was in Scheels and found their Outfitter brand 750 goose down jacket on sale. Has breathable side panels, athletic arms so doesn't get in the way of my bow string and very warm. Packs down small and always in my pack.

    Looking to try out firstlite

I have merino boxers, cuff beanie, kiln quarter zip, saw tooth jacket and vest as well as the catalyst jacket. I am 5' 9", 160 and wear medium everything. I just go by their sizing chart and find everything is pretty spot on. Kiln with sawtooth jacket and or vest with catalyst jacket will...
