How far do you drive for a diy trip

I am maxed out on vacation at 20 days/per year, between kids sports and holidays so that does not leave me enough room to add 4 days of driving to any trip. Thankfully ,I really only need to drive an hour to get in to some solid hunting. I just bought a round trip ticket to fly into Portland for...

    Need a new hunting rig

Yes, they are skinny 33’s - drakkar leaves with OME 883’s up front. Need to add some new UCA’s. It may end up getting some kings on it but I needed something to clear the tires.

    Pronghorn State Ranking

The only thing I have taped is length which is 16.5. I don’t think it makes 80 just because it is light on mass. The year that we hunted was a drought year so I think that played into the lack of mass. My taxidermist said that it was the largest bodied goat he had ever mounted, took the largest...

So How are you guys Locating Elk?

Lucky for me I live really close to where I hunt and spend most of my free time in the hills glassing and looking for new hunting spots. I can usually hunt deer, antelope, elk and upland birds all within the same unit so all the hunting usually ends up as scouting as well. If all else fails a...

    First Elk Hunt NV

If you are truly hunting in 075 the ground is really not all that difficult, there are some steeper areas but it is not like 072. If you are going to be with a guide then he will probably have the high end glass covered which to me is an absolute must. For your own glass having the ability to...

Any tips out there on seating flat base bullets?

I use a Sinclair neck expander and flare just enough to get the bullet to seat correctly. I use a .224 mandrel on my 20 Calibers but only size it as much as I need to...

Any tips out there on seating flat base bullets?

I put a slight flare on the case mouth of my 20 practical and .204 when reloading flat based bullets, similar to what you would do with a pistol case . The last station of my press is setup with a crimp die.

    2020 bird season

This season has been a little slower than years past. I am breaking in a rookie so things are not really in sync yet but there were some good days and some bad ones.

    Help with a pointer

You can use launchers to set up a scenario where you can work on the relocate like Jmez suggests. Working your dog on the launchers is going to give you the ability to make sure the dog will not catch again.....use pigeons. It will also give you an indication of how well the dog is scenting the...

    Twist-Locks vs Flip-Locks

I have both and it really depends on what I am doing, glassing out of the truck and doing 5 setups an hour mostly standing up I would take flip locks all day every day, they are just so much faster and easier to adjust. Backpack hunting I would probably go with the twist locks since most of my...
