Just purchased a new ~ 5.5lb short action Seekins rifle in a moderate recoil profile. Use will be Western hunting and of course lots of range time. Targets out to 1k, hunting 500yrd max, and will run suppressed.

Yep, you were correct. Can confirm that the short action Seekins Element Hunters are in the hands of sellers and owners. Sounds like the long actions are next. Going to try and make a trip to check them out soon.
Spectra to fluoro or mono - The John Collins RP knot is phenomenal (some know as Alberto’s). Have used for years. Easy, low profile, no need for bimini. Much of the long range fleet out of San Diego uses. For lake fish to triple digit Bluefin tuna.
Uni - for the other normal stuff, hooks...
Here in Prague Czechoslovakia for a few days while visiting Central and Eastern Europe. Walking down a swanky old narrow street my wife says, “I’m going to check out this glass store, they make some great stuff.”
I look up and see the name of Swarovski above the door. Thinking to myself, that...
So how did the SCI bear hunt go?
Didn’t know myself, but yes Croatia does indeed have brown bears, similar to our interior grizzlies. I talked to locals and the browns aren’t run into that often in this specific area. I’m off early am tomorrow on a ~ 5mi hike in a national park with my wife...
+1 on New Zealand. Spent a month there (but didn’t hunt) and saw a few wild boar, many wild goats, quite a few red stag deer, and coveys of quail. I glassed a little for tahr but didn’t see any. Buddy from the states bagged one. Locals are friendly. Met a guy that worked at a sporting goods...
I’ve seen some crazy setups in our area by the out of town and out of state folks during elk season! Quads over a custom rack above the truck hood, etc.
You mentioned “bringing one four wheeler” and ATV. Assume a quad vs a full size SxS? Given your first hunt trip out West, I would bring...
Lots of good tips posted by others. Will take a fly rod and a lightweight spinner as backup. My 10mm semi auto in the Kenai chest holster goes everywhere I go outdoors. Doesn’t interfere with fly fishing at all. Careful in Glacier, that place is loaded with grizzlies. And for those that aren’t...
Wait, that congressman that was banging the Chinese spy Fang Fang and the new liar-in-chief pencil neck senator don’t know what is best for the residents of your state? Stop the madness. Feel for you. There is hope…maybe a Kamala governor win can save the Titanic. :)
Fascinating footage. I watched a couple of different clips the last couple of days of that. Didn’t realize that he had actually fired a round from that rifle/shotgun? early on at the Polar bear and it didn’t blink. Fortunately, the sled was still running when he jumped on it. Scary stuff. Such...
Thank you for the response. That is some great information and also encouraging. I feel much more comfortable now with the 20” barrel setup. You are getting some very good accuracy out of the gate as well as some nice velocity with those slower burning powders. Again, thanks for the info.
Yes, I’ve basically landed at a similar thought pattern as you. Not in a rush, plus have a 280AI that is working well. At this point, I’m planning on getting a 6.5prc in either the PH3 or the Element Hunter. Just waiting for the EH to hit the market.
Had the same Q on a 280AI, and the answer seems to be yes. After a couple of calls with Seekins. For their Long Action, magnum cartridges the bolt head measures 0.537. To convert to 280 AI, would need to replace the magnum bolt head of 0.537” with a standard bold head face and a 280 AI barrel...
Very happy with the 150g CX in the 280AI. The most accurate by far of any bullets and loads I ran through it. One shot on a cow elk at just under 300 yrds, double long, animal didn’t take a step. Will be doing it again this fall. The bullet retention on the CX is impressive.
But one thing I...
I was with 3 buddies last summer early afternoon about 15 miles from my house (we live in a very small mountain community in Idaho), we had a large wolverine trot across in front of us about ~150+yrds out. Never thought I would see one in person because they are quite rare. Not sure if it was...
I have your same rifle but in 280AI. After lots of research, paired it with a Nomad 30 can. No plans to shoot a rifle w/out a can going forward unless no other options. The 280AI w/can kicks like a 22 and sounds subsonic. The Nomad 30 is on both the shorter and lighter side of cans and you can...
