Yeah, definitely don't take any drugs for the diabetes. All that does is make it worse and it's just not necessary. Eat right and exercise, is all you need to do.
I used to measure ketones, and I'd usually be fairly low- in the 0.1 to 0.5 range. To get higher than that it would take either fasting for at least 24 hours, or a good 3 to 4 mile hike would also bump up my ketones, usually into the 2.5 to 3.0 range.
