SIG SAUER Whiskey5 Riflescope Review *Updated 12/23/17*

SIG SAUER Electo-Optics has been working on some new scopes this year and I just got my hands on the Whiskey5 3-15x52mm model with the MOA Milling Hunter reticle. These are just hitting the retail market and look to be a pretty sweet scope. At this point I have only looked it over in the house and will be mounting it on a rifle this weekend if things go as planned so I can start testing it out. As always let me know what you guys would like to know and I'll do my best to get the answers.

I heard rumors they were going to offer this exact model in ffp. That would be really exciting.

Once you get it mounted would you give some feedback on eye relief and vignetting?

I had a 6-24x50mm Tango 4 that had horrible vignetting and really tight eye box. I love to hear how this model stacks up!!

Does it have locking turrets?

Got it mounted up on my AR15 for some coyote hunting next weekend.

This scope is loaded with features:
Built in electronic level, Illuminated reticle, 25 moa per turn of the dial, Free SIG Ballistic turret, Push button zero lock, and covered windage turret just to name a few.

I haven't heard anything about a FFP model. I'll ask about that.

Since I just got it mounted and haven't shot it yet, I don't have a definitive answer on the vignetting but the eye relief seems good. I'll get more info as I shoot it over the next week.

The elevation turret has a locking zero stop and the windage turret is capped.

Got the Whiskey 5 zeroed today.

I didn't have time for any tracking tests yet but it seems to adjust as it should. The clicks are crisp and clean.

Eye relief was great shooting off the bench. Book says it's four inches and that seems right to me. I did notice that I had to keep my eye centered pretty close or I would get some cloudiness/vignetting. I'm going to get a few different scopes out side by side to really get a good comparison of that.

I just got a text back from Craig over at Sig Electro Optics. He said they are not planning a FFP in any of the Whiskey series scopes at this point. He said the best options for FFP are the TANGO6 or the TANGO4 although the TANGO4 does not have the same HDX glass.

I did get it out this weekend on a coyote hunt and it worked great. I didn't take any photos because they would have been a little bloody and in poor taste.

The illuminated reticle was great while we were calling in the dark. It was really easy to see and on the low setting it didn't wash out the rest of the view. The field of view on three power seemed good and made it easy to get on target. I felt the scope performed well in low light situations as well.

The next part of my review plan is to get this scope on a bigger rifle and shoot it at some longer distances and test the tracking. So far I see nothing that would make me think it won't work as it should but time will tell.

Since I'm testing out the Christensen Arms Mesa in 300 wm I figured that would be a perfect rifle to push the limits of the Whiskey 5. I had a little trouble getting it mounted since the scope is so short which caused the bell of the scope to be located right above the fat part of the barrel above the chamber. The previous scope was a 4-14x56 SHV mounted in Talley medium height rings. The Whiskey 5 has a 52mm objective and required high Talleys to get the needed clearance. I was worried cheek weld would be an issue but my eye alignment was actually very good without needing a cheek piece.

After getting it mounted up and zeroed, I headed to WY for some antelope hunting. Opening morning we crawled to within 250 yds of a herd with a few nice bucks. My buddy had first shot and dropped his buck in it's tracks with his Ridgeline chambered in 26 Nosler. The herd scattered a little and when they settled down I got a good shot at my buck at 256 yards. I quickly dialed the Whiskey 5 and dropped my buck where he stood.

I've been testing the Whiskey 5 at some distance whenever I get a chance and it is performing very well.

I dialed the Whiskey 5 for 724 yards last week according to what my Sig Kilo 2400 abs said to adjust and made a perfect cold bore shot with the Mesa 300wm.

Today I dialed up 30 moa on the Whiskey 5 per the Kilo 2400 readout. The target was a white spot on a rock at 1128 yds and although my wind call was off a little, the elevation was perfect.

That's a good question. Both are great scopes for the money.

The SHV is easier to mount since it has a longer mounting area. The Sig can be a little harder to make fit.

I like the turrets better on the Whiskey 5. You get 25 moa per turn vs 10 moa per turn on the SHV.

The turret lock is really nice on the Sig. Some of the SHV's have a zero set but not all and they don't lock.

I think both have great reticles.

The Sig has a built in level feature so you don't need to add a level.

Glass seems to be similar and I still need to get them out side by side for a really good comparison.

Let me know anything I should compare that I didn't mention.

That's a great comparison, only thing I do not like about my NF SHV is the lack of a zero stop. Think I've found a diy option but would prefer they offer something.

Justin - standing by for the full review...very interested in this scope. Also the mounting issues probably arent as much of an issue on the 5-25 because it is a bit longer...Lukes tracking test has all got us a bit ancy on the ol Leupolds.

I noticed my sig kilo 2200 rangefinder has a bit of a blue tint to it compared to the leupolds which is a bit brighter...tracking and glass quality are the two things that pique my interest for this one. Also noticed the same thing with Vortex scopes, Leupolds glass at least to me seemed a bit brighter.
