The tag doesn't have to be on that quarter, but it simplifies things when getting checked. On cow elk I usually split the udder and leave two teats on each hind quarter. I know it isn't required, but saves me the headache if I accidentally cut one of them off at some point.
I used to hunt an...
I always crave salt when I'm up there. On about day 6, I'd fight a porcupine for a box of Cheeze Its.
I mixed up Peak, MH, and even just Top Ramen for dinners. Breakfasts were usually a bagel with peanut butter and honey. Some Pre-Cooked Bacon, summer sausage, and a block of cheese were a good...
I own a little bit of land, and I would much prefer a letter over someone stopping by my house unannounced/uninvited. Maybe I'm just a crotchety old fart, but I'm not a fan of strangers knocking on my door.
I would keep the initial letter short, likely hand written, and offer to stop by to...
Great story from start to finish! Thanks for documenting it so well and sharing it.
I too am interested in the scope test. Had you dialed elevation at that range with that scope before? Did you enter the 200 yard zero in the Kestrel instead of a 100 yard zero? Not trying to insult your...
I also believe it is disingenuous to compare soft goods like packs to hard goods like optics. Fabric doesn't last forever, metal, glass, and plastic darn near do if taken care of.
I didn't know either, so I checked. Wasn't trying to call anyone out, just found it curious they would undercut themselves on Amazon like that. I like their bags a lot for antelope, deer, and elk. Used Tag bags in AK for the bigger critters.
I just looked at Camofire, and on Amazon. Amazon has the elk bag set for 59.99 plus shipping (62.50 after shipping), where Camofire's sale price on them is $65.99 plus shipping (72.90 after shipping). It sort of makes the Camofire "sale" seem a bit pale.
I know you have rifles listed, but put ammo on your checklist. It seems like a no-brainer, but you don't want to overlook that in a late night packing and re-packing session. Throw licenses and locking tags on there as well.
If you have an InReach, make sure to put that on the list, along with...
Coming out swinging on a first post! :-)
I noticed a POI shift on my Ridgeline after about the first 80 rounds. It seemed to creep more and more as I shot it. I pulled the stock off to re-torque action screws and noticed a crack forming near the bolt handle inlet. It appeared to have had a...
In the barrel inlet, and all over the metal, you can use liquid carnuba wax for cars. Get it warm in the sun, and apply, let dry, and wipe off the excess. It fills in any voids, and leaves a nice water resistant layer.
You are a moose master! Congratulations on that tag! We need to chat about my draw next year. I'm thinking of burning 18 weighted points to try for a cow tag.
