    Overrated Gear

I think for a lot of users, a pyramid tent might be overrated. They are probably the lightest way to get a stormworthy shelter that can hold several people, but they require a large area to set up, they have a center pole that feels in the way, and are prone to condensation issues depending on...

Quick Access Gun Safes (cross posting)

I have a V-line gun safe with a simplex lock. Not only was there no way I'd have my pistol unsecured with visitors in my home or especially now that I have a child - it's also Colorado law to have it secured. Every design is a compromise but for me the simplex lock system was the only way to go...

    Cheap Stuff that Works

I'm a big fan of Mountainsmith V-stakes like the ones that come with the mountain shelter LT. Similar weight to MSR groundhogs, not quite as strong in my experience, but cheaper and still very good.

How do you store your gear?

I recently ran into this problem after downsizing into a home with no basement. I am nervous about putting things in a garage that is not climate controlled, but hoping that I can find some decent storage totes for the stuff that I want inside (tents mostly).

    Savage 110 Ultralite Accufit Stock

Just confirm that the action you're using has an accustock-style recoil lug - otherwise you'll have to replace or modify the recoil lug on your action to make it fit an accustock.

    Mountainsmith Mountain Shelter questions

Seems like the Mountain Shelter LT is still a really good choice for a cheap lightweight floorless shelter. I'm curious how these tents do in the wind and with snow loading for those who have had experience with them.

    snow/sod skirts

Looking at different pyramid shelters, some have snow skirts (sometimes called sod skirts), some offer it as an addition, some don't have them at all. I'm a little confused about how necessary or useful they are, since the Black Diamond megamid doesn't have one and has been used by winter...

    Eureka Timberline old school tent

I have a Timberline that I bought just a couple of years ago. It's still a good tent. The design is good to go in most three season weather, much more so than most simple dome tents in my opinion. For three season camping, I love tents where there is a part of the rainfly that doesn't go all...

    pack for tender back

For the last two years I've been dealing with on and off muscle pain in my lower back (not spinal pain). I have been doing physical therapy and improving my strength in my back, but often my pack is still sensitive and tender right in the lumbar region. The Deuter child carrier we have has a...
