    2025 Turkey harvest pics

Congrats on a tough bird. That rain and cooler weather had them moving this morning. Saw several strutters on the way to work. Gonna hunt the NC opener Saturday. Hope this weather holds out.

    2025 Turkey harvest pics

First South Carolina longbeard of 2025. He didn’t talk much. Once in the tree, once when he hit the ground, I got him to answer again at about 11, and finally about 1 PM. I shot him at 15 minutes later at 25 yards. I knew he was henned up, but would eventually come looking. Relocated twice and...

    Old Fud shoots 30-06

Life’s short, shoot what you like. Millions of game animals were killed way before the internet and its experts were here to tell you what you’re doing wrong…

KRG Echo - Sporterish version of bravo for tikkas

I shot mine a good bit Saturday after a local match. It’s a 308 Roughtech I had loaded up with 168’s.Hornady Black. That rifle loves that ammo. I didn’t notice any vibration, but the first shot was a reminder I wasn’t shooting my .223 match gun. The Echo was easy to control shooting off a...

    Whitetail deer bag limit

I used to hunt an NWR that had a one day hunt with a limit of 5 deer either sex. I tagged out several years in a row. One year I had killed all 5, two bucks and three does by 9 AM. 57 hunters killed 100+ deer by noon. Skinning and quartering 5 deer in an afternoon is all I want to do. I’ve...

Question for the Uukha limb gurus

    64” bow on a 19” riser and about 44-48 pounds depending on limb pocket geometry. I shoot medium 40 # Uukhas Evos on a 19” Morrison and get 47 pounds at 28”. On a 19” Hoyt Excel they’re 44 pounds @ 28”.

    Adult-onset hunter from MN

Pick a unit you can get a cow tag is and have a reasonable chance of drawing a bull tag in down the road. Go hunt cows every time you can and learn the unit. Boots on the same piece of ground multiple times will do way more good than all the E scouting ,online classes, and one time trips to...

Charleston, SC—things to do & see?

I used to have a lease in Nesmith, SC not too far from the original Scott’s in Hemingway. The deer and turkey hunting was unreal. I’d pick my boys up from school on Friday, and swing by Scott’s on the way to the lease for the weekend. We did that till they got involved in HS sports. We killed a...

Charleston, SC—things to do & see?

There is a really good DMR series I shoot. One day matches are held at the Clinton House, the Sawmill in Laurens, SC and Pigg River in Va. I think we had 80 shooters at the last match. That’s seems to be about the most popular style of match right now. It’s faster paced and less expensive than...

Charleston, SC—things to do & see?

Backwoods about an hour north of Charleston host the US and Junior US open sporting clays events. They also have a rifle range, but it only went to 300 last time I shot there. Palmetto Gun Club has F Class matches monthly. That about it for the Charleston area. No public long range options in...

    300 savage for model 99

50s era 99F with a 24” barrel 150 grain Sierra Pro Hunter over 40 gr of H4895 in Winchester brass gives me 2600 at the muzzle. I’ve killed a couple of dozen deer and a bunch of hogs with that load. The Sierra works well at .300 Savage speeds. The 150 gr Speer Mag Tip shoots really well out of my...

The best vest-less system for turkey hunting (imo)

20 year old Mossy Oak daypack I bought at BPS. I carry 1 slate call, 1 box call, and one diaphragm, extra striker, pair of binos , 1 bottle of water and some snacks. Few extra shells. That’s it. Somebody said you kill more birds with your ass. I agree 100%.

    Help finding a hunting lease/club

I’m near the coast in SC. Clubs / leases that have a big turnover are that way for a reason. Too many of the bigger ones have a core of older members with a constantly rotating group of new “donors”. They get the shit spots and get out after a year or two. A good club / lease usually has a wait...
