Shooting 80 ELD-M’s and X’s side by side today for the first time, I found something interesting.

They both have the same B.C., though the X is longer than the M. Same velocity from both out of my 18” 22 CM: 3194 fps.

However, when zeroing at 100 yards, the X’s impact .4 mil higher than the M’s. I shot 5 round groups, twice, to confirm.

At distances out to 875 yards, they had the exact same dope however, once I adjusted for the offset when shooting the M’s.

So 1.4ish" high at 100y, is it the same amount high at 400y, or now extrapolated to 5.5" high due to distance?

Zero offsets are dialed once, not extrapolated for distance. As for the rest of the trajectory, you'll need to validate that.

Yeah like @NSI said I just accounted for the offset when shooting the X’s, essentially dialing down and then slipping the turret to zero. They both had similar impacts at distance, so BC seeems to be the same.

Same BC, more consistent terminal results, and a spare 40 fps would appear to be a nice combination of factor in favor of the X.

Mine aren’t the same MV but very close. Around 0.2ish MIL discrepancy in 100 yard zero. 8 twist 20” barrel suppressed.

It’s great combo for cheaper practice ammo with the Ms and then hunting ammo with the Xs (if one has the desire to switch).

Yeah I don’t really know what to make of my discrepancy. Both shoot well and I’m going to hunt with the ELD-X’s this season.
It has to do with barrel harmonics and where in the oscillation cycle the bullet leaves the barrel.
That’s why heavier bullets will often print higher

Though in this case they are the exact same weight, just with one being longer than the other.

My POI is high and left with the eldx. Muzzle velocity is the same. ELDM shoot amazing the first box of eldx not great. Need to make up my mind for bear season now.

Nothing to decide. ELDMs arguably work better than the X.
Some certain contributors to this site have said the 80eldx may perform more consistently terminally VS the 80 eldm. So now the 80gr eldx has gained a lot of attention. I personally have had good luck with 80 and 88 eldm. So I'll continue to use them.

I particularly like the 88, I find it easier to tune and results, on game over a wide range of speeds is great.
My favored shot is to break bones, shoulders from the sides and spine from the back or front (I shoot a lot of pigs running away and the high date shot is a great anchor).
