Not trying to beat a dead horse here as these two binos have been compared before and recently. The consensus as I take it is that the Zeiss has the slight edge in glass and the vortex has the slight edge in weight, customer service and warranty.

What I am wondering is if anyone has used the Zeiss binos on a tripod. From what I can tell is that Zeiss offers a tripod adapter that fits over one or the other objective lends while Vortex offers an actual screw in tripod adapter. This leads me to believe that the Vortex would be much simpler to use on a tripod than the Zeiss. If so, it would be enough to cinch the deal on the Vortex over the Zeiss for me.

Anyone compare these two or have any use behind them on tripods?

Sorry to hi jack, but have you looked at the Meopta hd.. IMHO much better glass than either of these 2 for the same money.

I have but not a fan of the ergonomics or weight. They remind me of throwback binos from the 70's but with excellent glass.

Search again on the Zeiss, I have recently posted how the center cap comes off on the Zeiss and that there are threads for a tripod mount. I also believe Zeiss had made it easier to remove this cap.

I have used the Zeiss single barrel tripod adapter on Zeiss Victory Ht binoculars. I was a bit skeptical in the begining but have grown to accept it. I have been leaving the barrel adapter on the binos and screwing on my quick release plate when needed. The adapter itself works well and isn't really noticeable without the QR plate. Even with the QR plate attached I can still hand hold the binos without interference.

I would have prefered a threaded hinge but don't see much difference between screwing on a QR plate and screwing in the hinge adapter.

Another option is the wrap around universal tripod adapter like the Nikon Bino-U-Mount.

Thanks for all the replies fellas. Dotman, could you be kind enough to repost how the center cap comes off. The only thread that I saw about it was posted some time ago when someone retapped the hingeplate, something I am definitely not interested in doing. Here is the thread I am referring to:

Let me look for it, no need to retap as the threads are there. Pretty much if you can't unscrew the cap (think you can on the 2014 production run) just drill the center of the cap out slowly and it will fall off. Then unthread the plastic that remains. The threads are already there so you will not drill and tap anything on the binos, just drill out the hinge cap because it was epoxied on mine. But again if the cap doesn't have the z emblem and is just a plastic cap it should easily unscrew.

Thanks dotman, appreciate the help and information. Still a little uneasy about taking a drill to the most expensive pair of binoculars I have ever purchased but at least I know its an option. Really don't think anyone could go wrong either way (Vortex Razor vs Conquest HD) and at least I have my ducks in a row to make a more informed decision now.

you will likely be happy either way. I have a pair of 10x42 conquest HD's and think they have a slight edge in glass department over the razors.
