Hey folks.

How do I properly remove the factory plug where the stud gets installed?

Tried Googling and YouTubing to figure out if that plug is threaded, or if I just pull/pop it off. Came up empty.

Don’t want to F it up by forcing it.

Funny I just ran into this yesterday and almost made a post.

That cap does unscrew. You just have to sacrifice the tip of your thumb to put enough pressure on it since it has no ridges.

I was simultaneously pushing from the top and twisting and using my other hand to turn from the side.

Sure enough, thank you! I got it off.

Are you also running an Outdoorsman stud by chance?

I believe I have a “universal” Outdoorsman stud (confirmed on Outdoorsman website that “universal” should fit these binos), but the circumference of the stud shroud seems to be too big for binos. See pics.

The bino housing is rubber, so I’m sure I could thread it in there and get the rubber to fit around the shroud, but that seems like a lot of pressure on the rubber bino housing.

Perhaps the stud I have is bigger than the “universal” stud?

I have an off brand Amazon one right now and had that same issue. IMO, the lack of ridges to unscrew the cap and having the threads being recessed are two boneheaded design decisions.

I’m going to try the Bushnell or Field Optics one next I guess. Might have to shave some material off the stud regardless of which way I go though.

@Newtosavage has these binos with an Outdoorsman mount. Wonder how he makes it work?

I also noticed when I forced mine in that the rubber would grip the stud, and it would actually unscrew it gradually as I folded them (or whatever you call it when adjusting the interpupillary distance)

After a few more minutes of messing with it the Outddormans universal stud seems to fit just fine.

For anyone else looking, don't sacrafice your thumb quite so much...

Fold a small strip of duct tap until it is double sided and just smaller than that darn factory plug. Sick it to the plug and your thumb and you are good to go.
