My 11 year old son will be archery hunting for pigs and whitetail this year, he’s currently drawing just shy of 40lbs and I was wondering what broadheads y’all had success with? Any tips or experiences would be appreciated!

I would get a cut on contact fixed blade. If you don't want to spend a bunch of money, I would look at something from Magnus. Check out the Ranch Fairy Youtube channel. He has some really good info on penetration with lower draw weights and kills a ton of pigs with some really light bows.

I set my buddies 12 year up Last year with magnus 2 blade pulling 35lbs. He shot his first whitetail at 20yds with a complete pass through.

My daughter shot her first deer last year with a 42 lb bow and a 2 blade magnus stinger. I also shot a deer with a 38 lb recurve with 2 blade magnus. They seem pretty good to me for the price.

Magnus 2 blade stinger. Not even close! Touch them up on a leather strop and they’re wicked. Plus American made, cheap, fly well, and sharp after a basic stropping.
Definitely a fixed 2 blade coc. I also recommend the Magnus Stinger or the one I shoot now. The Simmons Mako.

Do you guys think the bleeder blades are that detrimental? I remember them being around 3/8".
(I think I have some if anyone wants them)

In my opinion probably not. That’s just what others had recommended to me.

Get the bleeders (4 blade Stingers). They help with damage and blood trails and don't inhibit penetration enough to matter. I used to shoot them out of a 40# longbow with great results.

I’ll take penetration over increased cut with a short draw and low poundage bow. Put it where it counts and bleeders won’t make a lick of difference but if you square up a rib those bleeders will make it harder to get through the rib.

Not to sound like a broken record, but the Magnus Stingers are perfect for your application.

Skip snorting the fairy dust, no need to go there. He's half good info half terrible info.

Get a good COC sharp 2b head. These Extracts are great 100 grainers. If you like replaceable Alien makes a good head as well. Or as stated Magnus

If you have no budget, Iron Will or Day6. Otherwise Kudu, or Magnus.

I know this thread is a few months old now, but can you vouch for this head being pretty capable out of a low poundage setup? I know the tip is “almost” a cut on contact, pointier than the original slick truck and other chisel type heads, but not as sharp as something like the tip of a Magnus.

I’ve considered whether it is a viable option in this scenario, so I’d love to hear about any experience or insight you have with it.
