I am starting the phase of life where I am taking my kids hunting. I’m looking for a good backpack idea for kids. Ideally, one that can grow with them. Any ideas?

Several years ago when my son was 11, I bought him a SG with a small 3 piece belt. He's 15 now and the only thing that I've changed on the pack is the bag. He'll be using it this coming Aug. for sheep, although I may have to get a larger belt. My plan is to have my 10 year old daughter using it by this fall as well. Start up costs aren't cheap, but I think between the two of them, and over the course of time, we'll get our $$ worth.

I've got a buddy who does some big backpack trips with his kid, he gets osprey packs for free so they run those but he said he really liked the Gregory and has a nephew using one. The prices aren't bad and you can find them used on some hiking pages... my kid is still a little young to pack one but I want to get one early and get him accustomed to having a pack on.

I was thinking seek outside maybe, because of the expandable frame. I’ve never seen one up close, so I’m not sure if it I’ll be too large.

My son is 14 and so far has used an old 90s Gregory palisade- super easily adjustable, and in my experience as a kid and according to him as well- really comfortable with as much as a kid can do. And now he’s using a Dana design terraplne from either craigslist or a garage sale I can’t remember which. Total investment so far is like 65$ and will work great until he can wear one of my frames/packs while he decides what he wants fulltime
