Bull and 1 cow were OTC public. The spike and other cow were private.
I spend between 15-20 days hunting, broken up into chunks.

Elk hunted for 9 years, 3 bulls 2 cows.

All archery, one bull on private the other two public, both cows on public.

Two cows otc
One bull otc
Two bulls draw

I’d say my average for the 9 years elk hunting is about 13 days per year focused on my elk tag.

Shot on day 5, was prepared to say 14 if needed.

That was 1999. I am finally trying to get back this year, but there's nowhere to go but down from here.

3 Elk Tags - 3 Filled Tags

1 Cow- Draw, Rifle, Public Land, Guided-- I was 13 and my uncle wanted to scout an outfitter he planned on using for his limited entry tag the next year. Was fun but I wouldn't quite call it a true elk hunting experience as we filled the tag the morning of the first day. The views when glassing elk down in the valley as the frost glistened from the morning sun was something I'll never forget. I've spent many nights on Google Earth trying to find that exact valley/basin just to relive the view that got me addicted to elk hunting but unfortunately to no avail so far.

2 Bulls- Both are Archery, OTC, Private Land-- Family friend has a ranch in SW Colorado. All DIY but it is private. It was a great opportunity to get some experience DIY on the mountain and certainly learned many things and made many mistakes.

Batting 100% but this year I have an OTC, backcountry hunt planned on public land. Excited because I consider it my first true test to see if I can get it done among the masses. Moving forward I should be able to do a minimum of one elk hunt a year and besides trips back to the family friend ranch, all will be DIY on public land. .

5 years elk hunting. 3 of which were hiking with a bow.
1 bull. Multiple missed shots.
OTC CO public land.
Total days hunted per yr is 12-20.
I see elk every day i go out. Making the shot is another matter.

I've had 3 Montana general elk tags.
Only rifle hunted for the first. Got it, 3 yo 5x5 rag. (2011)
Archery in 2019. Due to extenuating circumstances I didn't get to actually hunt much. Passed on a big cow at 19 yards. Tag soup.
Back again in 2020 and got another 5x5 probably an age class up from the first one.
So I'm 2 for 3.

I’ve been out to CO 7 times in the last 8 years. All public land diy archery. I always plan on up to 10 days of hunting.

7 otc archery tags bought.
5 bulls harvested.
The two years that I didn’t kill I could have harvested a cow. But I held out waiting on a bull and ended up eating my tag.

- been hunting 26 years, only the last 2 for elk
- 2 bulls, neither fully mature but 1 almost
- Archery and rifle
- Public land
- OTC
- first year elk hunting I spent probably 4 days for the bull, then 10 days on an unfilled cow tag, last season I spent about 6 days on the bull.

67% success rate so far on 3 elk tags

5 elk tags over a decade and only filled one. I'll help bring down that average lol. Hoping to bring it up a little this year.
