As others have said, as a father, the pain of your loss is unimaginable to me. My condolences to you and your family.

Here are a few pictures of my oldest son Clark and his firsts.

Thanks for the stories. Just the other day I had left for work, and my wife texted me shortly after saying my daughter was disappointed because she wanted me to stay home to watch hunting show with her. Up to this point that was out of character for her.

First off, I’m very sorry to hear about the loss of your first child, I can’t imagine.
I have two kids, boy and a girl, 18 and 13. My daughter thought that she wanted to start hunting, but when it was time to do her hunter safety course, she decided that she really wasn’t that interested, so oh well. My son on the other hand is the complete opposite, he can’t get enough of it, and I dare say, he may even enjoy it more than me. I can’t for sure remember his first big game kill because he killed his first deer and first goat on the same hunt (10day hunt on Kodiak when he was 12), and I don’t remember which came first. Here’s a couple pictures.

I can't imagine losing a child. Hang in there. I believe you will see your son again someday.

My oldest first and second kills. He was 3.5 years old and has been trapping with me and taking care of coyotes since. He'll be 8 a month from today.

Here’s a pic of the end result, the night of. In terms of the boy, I will happily loan him to the OP until he’s at least 19. He’s 14 now.

First off sorry for your loss! I know the pain of burying a child!

My son Lane when he was 12, now he’s 21 and in the Air Force… very proud of him!

If you look close he scopes himself on that little whitetail.

I’m very sorry for your loss. I’ve been there and know how tough it can be. We lost our middle child when he was only a week old. He was born at 25 weeks after my wife had serious complications. Came pretty close to losing her too.

Thankfully my oldest boy (12) loves to hunt with me and my daughter (4) is already asking to go. My son has killed one each year since he was 9.

It was all I could do to get the last one in the trunk of the Camry lol.

Sorry for your loss.

My son who is now 15yo killed his first big game animal at 6. I told him he had to kill a squirrel first and he was successful in October. Our gun season opens in November and after only 3 hunts he was fortunate to have this buck walk out by us. He made the shot count. He’s been very lucky over years taking deer, turkeys, doves and a bear.

Trapping the forgotten art. I had a friend of my fathers take me out when I was a kid. Valuable information he bestowed upon me.

To the OP, I offer my thoughts and prayers towards solace for your loss.
This post really got to me. I have been a lurker on RS for years, but had not registered because of bad forum experiences on other sites. Your post caused me to sign up.

I have been blessed with 2 beautiful daughters, who are now incredible young adults. Neither of them had the passion to join me in my hunting and fishing adventures, and I never pushed it onto them.

Then my youngest daughter met a young man who is an outdoorsman. She came to me and wanted to try her hand at deer hunting. She wanted dad to teach her how to do things right, so that her and her beau could enjoy time together in the outdoors. Looking back today, I know how special that moment was in my own life.

You see, we nearly lost this incredible woman at birth. She was born many weeks premature, and spent 2+ months in an NIC ICU. Now she is a college graduate and is as driven, caring, strong and creative as anyone that you will ever meet.

Our first deer hunt together, laying in that cold fence line, is one that I hope to never forget. She calmly shot this whitetail buck, while I on the other hand was a complete wreck. I am incredibly lucky to get the opportunity to experience this together with her.

She has since backed up that whitetail with a muledeer the following year, and I cannot wait to go hunting with her again.

Sorry for your loss. I wish you a Son-In-Law that looks up to you like his own Dad!

Ive got pics of both my sons first deer and elk but that was way before digital cameras....I need to get to scanning a bunch of those. About 3 years apart, both had cow tags for their first elk but scored no problem, but the younger one shot the calf when I pointed out the huge mother cow...oh well. Now they have both taken bigger elk and deer than I have.

Man sorry about your loss. Can’t imagine.
Great pics guys, glad to see the girls hammering em. My daughters both started pretty young, and both eventually became hunter ed instructors until they moved away. My youngest first harvest. She was just barely legal age
