24 straight days of work is finally finished, and I followed that up with a wedding weekend where I was part of the bridal party. It was a loooooong, 3.5-4 weeks, let me tell you. I got some strength work done, but probably around 1/3 of the amount of workouts I would normally do. Still, i'm making progress, which is all that matters. Some of my work was backpack shocking, so I got some hiking and weight carrying in. Otherwise, on the days I was home (which was few), I tried to take the dog for a walk carrying an 80-90lb pack just to get in some extra. My schedule should be more normal now going into August and the fall. My main goal during this hectic period was take every opportunity I had to go to the gym, and really hammer it when I was able to go. I tried to be efficient with time and resources. Only 5 weeks left!!!!

Way to go SC. I'm right in the middle of my field work.. but I should be finished by labor day. Looking to get a handful of workouts in this week and possibly a bear hunt...

Hey all, its been 3 long weeks, sorry about the delay, but we're just finishing up the field season and I've been traveling and getting some scouting in. I've been consistent on the 1 leg day and 1 upper body day a week. However, you'll notice that there are 2 workouts missing, 1 upper body, 1 lower body. The reason for this is they were't really worth posting. They were some of the worst training sessions I've ever had, I literally felt like someone turned gravity up by 50%. I can't find a link to it, but Dan John wrote an article years ago about training sessions...most are punch the clock type sessions, some are great, and every couple years you have a training session that makes you feel superhuman. Then there are sessions that are so bad, you want to quit. I had 2 of those, consecutively. However, I upped my food and sleep (as much as I could) and keep going. On the plus side, scouting was great, saw 11 different bulls, nothing huge, but still exciting. Because I'm starting grad school this fall I won't be able to take my standard week off, so we'll see what I can get done in 4 days. Hope your season openers, for those who've started, are going great!!

It's been a busy last month. Tough to get training in around work, grad school, field work, and hunting. I switched to 1 upper body, 1 lower body, 1 full body split because I need a little more recovery time during the hunting season, so I can't do 4 full weight training days. In other news, I shot a bull the 25th of September, just got finished processing it. It was a 58 yard broadside shot, arrow hit almost exactly where I aimed, which was low as I have my pin set at 60 yards. Bull made it about 140-150 yards and layed down. Crept in for a second shot while he was gasping and the deal was done. He's not a big bull, prob a 4-5 yr old 6x6, but it was a great experience. Now I get to help my brothers in rifle season for elk and hopefully chase some monster mulies in November. Hopefully the season is going great for you guys.View attachment 41078

Last 3 weeks have been super busy, killed a ton of pheasants over opening day in NE Montana, killed some pheasants and ducks the next weekend, and last weekend helped my brother pack out an elk from the Crazies. We packed in about 3.5 miles the day before opener, there were 10 trailers and 5-6 other rigs in the same general area, it was unreal. Went to an out of the way spot for opening morning, had what I think was a bull ghost thru the timber without offering a shot, then that evening he shot a cow in the same place. We just switched to all copper bullets this year, it performed great at 360 yds. Hung her up that night then spent about half the next day packing her out, ~11 miles and 2000ft elevation over 2 trips took about 5.5 hours. Now we both have meat all winter!!! As for the training, I've switched some stuff up, it was getting a little stale. Switched to wider stance squats (as opposed to really narrow which is what I've been doing), and switched my days around a little bit. Still getting some progress so I'll just keep after it all season. My next big trip will be around thanksgiving (mule deer hunt) but I'll make it up into the hills a little bit to chase mule deer or help people with elk. Good luck on all your seasons!!!

Wendler is awesome, as far as I can tell from internet videos and podcasts. He's a big reason why I have followed Elite FTS for so long, along with their business model and how they approach selling products. I actually had an article posted on Elite a couple years ago, I'll attach the link at the end of the post. From all I've ever heard 5/3/1 is fantastic, I've actually never used it, always programmed myself. Link... Selling Snake Oil: A Brief Review of Dietary Supplement Efficacy and Safety / Elite FTS

I had totally forgot about this thread until this morning.

Fine job on the article. It's awesome you did some work for Elite. Those guys are my heroes. Especially Dave and Jim. I avoid most supplements and supplement marketing especially like it's the plague. My supplementation is super basic: protein, a daily multi-vitamin, and the occasional BCAA drink while cycling or if my workouts are pushing the 45-60 minute mark. I could probably use to get on some fish oil and some other stuff since I'm getting older.
