XLR thumb rest opinions

I am toying around with ordering one of the xlr thumb rests for my element 4.0. I wanted to check here to see if anyone had opinions, or if someone has one they would like to sell. Thanks!

Sorry to sidetrack this thread, but what side do people normally put this on? Dominant hand side? Opposite side? Whatever is comfortable for a person?

As thumb rests go, it’s a good one.

It goes on your bolt side.

Right handers right side of the chassis
Left hand on the grip left side of chassis

I don’t have my chassis in front of me but I was envisioning trying to reach my thumb to the other side and got a contorted look on my face

I recently purchased a chassis to try. And when I was setting it up, it felt more comfortable for me to be on the opposite side, but far back. Now I’ve never taken a shooting class and probably have poor form. But for what I am used to, it felt more natural there for me. I guess more of a question is where is it supposed to be and should I be changing my form to match?

I am kind of in the same boat. The last couple time I shot with the xlr chassis, my horizontal spread was bigger than my vertical spread. I assume that is due to me and am hoping to clean up whatever the issue is.

I checked when I got home and I guess it is feasible to have it on the opposite side. If I were to do that I’d point my thumb forward and not put it on a rest. Having it on the bolt side allows for less of a grip on the gun and more of a hook with your fingers. Less likely to grip & torque IMO. Same reason I shoot my bow with my finger tips on the riser instead of wrapped around the grip.

Every chassis grip is a compromise when compared to a stock that enables the shooting thumb to lie neutral up the tang where it contributes to recoil mitigation without imparting undue torque.

In my view, the size of the XLR thumb rest does a better job than most in enabling the bolt-side thumb to contribute to recoil mitigation without hiding it a mile from the bolt (on the other side of the pistol grip) for rapid manipulation.

However, it is perfectly reasonable to simply say "I'm going to use the pistol grip." So long as you're careful with your torque and understand the cycle speed drawbacks, there is no federal mandate to use the cool-guy bolt side grip.

I use their thumb-rest and I find that I can really relax my grip hand... I used to kind of torque the grip when shooting (or at least I perceived that I did). I like them a lot!

I think I like it, but I have to remind myself to use it. I am sure that will go away with more practice.
