Howdy,
Not going to ask anyone for any public responses here about where to XXX in Wyoming, but do want to state my situation and what I'm looking for, and I hope someone might PM me some useful feedback. I know you folks who live in WY dont want another soul headed that way, but I think a guy on Rokslide like me should be the least of your concerns.

About Me:
Tired of life in the East, tired of people, of traffic, of noise, of BS.

Conservative, republican. Smaller govt the better, and I don't want to give the govt a penny more than I absolutely have to.

If you need any help, tractor stuck, tree across your road, somebody is hurt, etc. gimme a call and I'll be there ASAP with tools to help, otherwise, I mind my business and you mind yours.

Married Late 40s, No kids, and won't be having any, so schools, etc. is irrelevant.

Yes I hunt, but have no delusions of owning enough land out West to hunt on.

I reload, change the oil in my truck, etc can handle many basic plumbing or electrical issues, and always try to do anything I can myself before paying someone to do it.

What I'm looking for:

A spot in Wyoming where I can be away from humanity and live a quiet life, where I can see some mountains in the distance.

Healthcare relatively close.

40+ acres to live on

Ideally I would be tucked into some topography that would break the wind, so wide open stuff out on the plains is not attractive.

What I'm not looking for:

A stereotypical lower 48 town with all the humanity and BS that comes with it


My plan:
Im coming out this summer for a week or so, renting a car, and checking out a couple of areas. I watch different websites and save mls listings that would be in my price range, but I don't have a clue about some of these areas.

Thanks for any feedback or advice. Maybe instead of where to go, the feedback is where not to go.

In the summer, look for snow fences, come back in winter to buy. Remember, if it’s a dirt/gravel road and your driveway is 100 yards, you are the snow removal in the winter. Laughed when cali moved out and asked when would the snow leave so they could get out their driveway. House went up for sale very quickly. 40 acres may be hard to find. It’s either 5 or 500 or greater. Make sure you have water rights as well.

"Ideally" does not = requirement.

Good luck and come out during Winter, make sure to travel around the state too during that visit. Take some time to talk with locals.

Go spend a couple weeks in WY during the winter and you’ll probably change your mind. It’s an inhospitable place in more ways than one

I'm from Louisiana, live in Utah for the past 25 years and spend a considerable amount of time in Wyoming for work and pleasure. With those requirements, you're going to need to do some real homework. And a winter trip out here might help set expectations.

Let me help you out.....

Lived in Western WY for 6 years and worked at a mine on the Idaho border. My wife and I are both from over the hill 45 minutes away on the ID side. You will be an outsider and possibly never accepted into the fold if you didn't grow up/go to high school with everyone. 80% Mormon folks, very nice neighbors, but like I say you'll always be an outsider. People may be friendly with you when you see them around town but when they get around the native crowd they poke fun at you. If your OK with that, then read on.

Best hunting I've seen. I have lived in ID/WY/MT and Western WY has excellent general season hunting for mule deer, elk and black bear. Sure it's not the 90's anymore but it's still good and better than most general season areas, especially if you have horses like we do. Very horse friendly place to hunt, unlike where I live now in MT where its solid timber. You can go on a general elk tag which is any elk and go out on public land and see elk every time you go out. Not kill one but at least see elk. You can not do that in ID/MT at least I have never been able to.

As far as your requirements on what you are looking for I can think of a decent amount of places fitting that bill. I had one as well, 40 acres with a creek bordering BLM outside a very small town in SW WY. Cost me 95,000 in 2018. Times have changed like everywhere else and not changed for the better either. Transplants are ruining the last 3 great states we have ID/WY/MT. People move there "and they are just like us". But let's be honest that is just bullshit they aint.
