Me and a couple buddies picked up leftover cow tags for 36. Plan is to do a pack in style archery hunt mid sept. Looks like there’s only 2 main access points in this unit. Question is will it be worth dragging a UTV and toy hauler all the way from Missouri? I was hoping someone who had experience with the roads coming in from the south could chime in. Thanks and good luck to everyone!!

There are more than 2 access points. Some people do bring their toys but I personally don't see any value in having them.

Nope little to no use in 36. There really isn’t any good access to that unit. Most people use one of about 5-6 points to access and none that I know of are Utv advantageous. I will tell you that going 3-5 miles in you will still run into alot of people. People seem to hunt farther than they can pack out in that unit. There is a packer that does drop camps that will haul you in and out. Good knowledgeable guy. He is a hunting guide on the side for another outfitter. Black tooth outfitters is the company.

I know what two access points you’re talking about, there are others as people have said but I get what you’re saying.

I hunted 36 last year, in September the forest service roads are probably going to be fine, but these people saying UTV’s are no use in 36 are having you on. If there’s any inclement weather the road is impassable beyond Hunter mesa without one. You’ll be walking while everyone else is driving past you to set up their camps. Without one that access point is not good, we decided to hike in and camp off of one of those other access points. You can DM me if you want.

Lots of moose around there too, don’t shoot one of them.

But what if it’s “coming right at me” with a crazed look in its eye??
Appreciate the info. DM incoming
