Wyoming Elk Hunts - Regions/Guides

Yeh that's the complicated and why some direction of zone is helpful, if I do get drawn by small chance with low points, I would have a hard time finding a good outfitter last minute.

We drew this year at 4 points. I began networking with guides as soon as I started buying points ... many of them said they were full heading into the draw, but a couple reached out after to see if we found a guide ... the draw didn't go as expected for some of their prospective clients. It's almost as much of a lottery for them as it is for us.

I actually put a deposit down on a guide 2 years back. Non-refundable, but it secured my spot (in future years) and some level of price point security. I believe this is more the exception than the rule in terms of how guides work. When we got drawn, it was administrative.

Buy a point now, and every July, but put in for a tag in the Western region each January. I got lucky with zero points and found a great outfitter. We had a great trip and killed a nice bull as well.

Just bought my point and will do West this coming Jan. Its unlikely but if I get the random lottery, what guide did you have good success with?

Ross Adney with beaver trap outfitters is in north central Wyoming, he kills some nice bulls every year. He recently picked up a nice chunk of private land. It’d take a handful of points to probably draw can always pay more for the special draw, and there’s always a chance at a random tag. ( my son (14) drew an elk tag this year with a 3% odds so it’s always a chance

Wow he is reasonably priced too with some good reviews and annual elk photos that prove they pull in a good amount every year - and with more private land it will only get better.
