Wyo Wild?

Hey fellas, got what should be a fairly straight forward question but could not find the anwser after a search.

As a non rez understand I can't hunt wildness in Wyo without a guide. But was trying to identify what is designated wilderness on onx. Is it all national forest? Anything in green. Or only stuff grayed out titled wildness? Cause in a unit description it stated that wildness cuts off most nonres acess. But only a small portion of that N forest is designated wilderness and its entirely in another unit.

Any info appreciate

It's only federally designated wilderness areas. I believe OnX shows those areas as having dotted lines or something like that in the area.

Not sure how wilderness would cut off non res access? It is still public land. You should be able to walk through it to get to the NFS.

I should say ride through it. A lot of wilderness area isn't foot hunter friendly.

Don't need a guide if you have a friend to escort you that is a resident! I am working on that now, my wife has a friend there but she is not a hunter, however being a Botanist she is out and about a lot!

If I were going to hunt near a wilderness and walk through I would definitely contact a local warden and ask his opinion on the matter! Should be good to go but who knows?

That is a very strange law to me. Wilderness land is Federal land correct or just Federally designated? What is the reason for having such a law?
One of the dumbest laws on the books if you ask me. Supposedly it's for our "safety". But you can fish or camp or hike or take photos or whatever you want there. Just no hunting.

I believe the main reason is to protect the outfitters in Wyoming. the business for outfitters revolves around Non resident hunters wanting to hunt the wilderness. With the population being so low in Wyoming for residents. The outfitters need something to keep them floating. and the wilderness law is just that.

Ok thanks for the explanation Kenneth. I don't personally hunt in Wyoming and no current plans to ever do so. Maybe one day I guess, and glad I now know this.

Hell, I’m pretty sure you can bird hunt in wilderness, just not big game hunt.

Those dotted lines are trails. Wilderness areas are "greyed out" and have very hard to see black dashed lines around the perimeter.

I understand that. You should be able to walk through a wilderness area to access public land on the other side of it.

Just an FYI if you aren’t aware: your friend is “resident liaison” will have to be with you at all times (“guiding” you) while you are hunting. She can’t be chillin’ in camp or off picking mushrooms while you are 2 drainages over.

I don’t agree with this regulation in anyway and just as soon see everyone of these selfish and entitled wilderness outfitters out of business entirely, but it is what it is.

Yep I undestand it, pain in the azz but I am looking at an Elk hunt there in the next year or two so it is an option! She can look for mushrooms 100 yards back with a cow call in her mouth!

Also has to purchase a resident "guide" license.
