That 40% decline was only in 1 yr, 2020 to 2021 and in R7. But yes, WYGFD is pretty far beyond FWP in terms of management. In FWPs defense, there is close to 2x the people in MT than WY

Thanks for the correction. Did you mean to say FWP is behind WYGFD?

WY wildlife definitely benefits from the lack of resident population but all the more reason to recognize WYGFD actually managing when their neighbor gets away without doing it with higher hunter numbers.

Please keep in mind that Wyoming is not addressing anything at this point, they are just spending money studying the issue. That, at least, may be a start.

Yes, I was saying WYGFD > MT FWP. And, I think a big part of that reason is WYGFD's continued imvestment in research, something the current FWP regime is minimizing even more. This is coming directly from the mouth of researchers thst have been working with FWP for over a decade.

Monitoring mortality and census data is obviously important. There is a pile of $ available that hopefully goes to actual on the ground use to improve habitat, highway fencing, water improvement projects, actual predator control etc that favors fawn recruitment. It would be nice to see some of the millions of $ to go to actual on the ground deer conservation rather than data gathering?

There's no mention of zombie deer in the article but in my area there are proposed and waiting on approval for some changes to address CWD. Along with that mixing up the seasons for elk to help bring their numbers down. They really are a issue we have alot more then we used to.

Waste of time propping up mule deer. It’s just a matter of time before a big winter decimates the herd. Elk are just more adept at surviving out west. So sad too bad.
