So I got burned by Gunwerks… as they were offering a 2 day shooting course followed by a 3 day guide cow elk tag. This was on the website up until last week. I originally started emailing them back in late November and kept following through into January about doing this hunt/course with friends, and the units I needed to put in for etc and they were helpful in the process as I’ve never applied for anything in WY. Well couple of days ago my friend that is going with me went to there website and now all the elk hunts are off of it. So I emailed park Taylor back as he’s been my point of contact at Gunwerks and asked what’s going on. He said sorry we decided to cancel the hunts… well wtf, we all just put in fir 58/61 area cowbell hunts off of our conversations last week… so basically he said sorry your on your own… I still can’t believe he didn’t say at anytime hold off on putting in for those tags as we’re trying to figure out some details of if this hunt is going to happen this year.

So any help on a late season cow elk hunt guided for area 58 potentially 61? We’re coming from WA.

Thanks
John

WY elk application didn’t close out yet (doesn’t until end of January). Just get ahold of Wyoming to withdraw your application.

No biggie

Then go back to drawing board.

How did they burn you, did you put money down on the hunt?

Sounds to me like you were himhawing around and not putting the money into the game.

I’d withdrawal.

i know I can withdraw, but the whole point was to experience the area and do a hunt, so that’s why I’m asking for some guide recommendations, so that if I need to modify my hunt area I can before the end of the month. I planned on a cow elk hunt with friends and I’m the group leader, now I’m scrambling to come up with some back up options.

They didn’t burn financially, just screwed up a bunch of time planning, now I’m in the position to regroup. This was a hunt they offered last year, and advertised this year and advertised for 2026. Just think if they were on the fence about offering the hunt they could of said something to me, as it’s not like I just reached out to them this week, it’s been communicating with them from Nov. through the beginning if Jan..

So yes I’m regrouping as a hunter that’s what you have to do if you get to a spot and someone’s there already

You have until May 8 to modify. It doesn’t have to be done by the end of the month

OP any chance you can make a trip out during the summer to scout? I’m not big at all on E-scouting for bulls. But if the unit holds a good number of elk and you have some elk hunting experience you can find their likely hangouts in a map. Approach it as you would any other area you have hunted and think like an elk and you should be fine. It’s only a cow.

Also… since Gunwerks screwed you and I agree they did, maybe they will feel bad enough about it to point you in the right direction. Were they to give you private land access? If not ask them for at least a starting point. Given that you should be able to punch some cow tags there.
