WTB - Spotting Scope

Heading to New Zealand on an Elk hunt and need a spotting scope.

I don't need to see the fleas on their backs at 2 miles, just be able to view and identify them at range. I'm thinking a Vortex Diamondback 20-60x80 would do the trick. A yone have one they would like to move? Other scopes you have laying around are also considered.

Good luck with your hunt. I will be interested to hear how you go. It is rated as one of the toughest hunts around. The terrain and climate can be punishing. A lot of time spent in ultra dense wet bush. A spotter may not be required depending on the block you drew.

I got the Stillwater block. I will spend the first 2 days chasing Chamois and Elk on the tops and then slowly moving down to an open saddle which will be glassed for another two days... Then moving on to glass the headwaters of a different system. The glass will see plenty of use!!! I hope to spend more time behind it than moving.

Great news though... My 2 hunting partners called me and pulled out last night. I need to come up with a quick plan B.

Good on you for going ahead with it! Maybe your mates realised how brutal it can be lol. I'm probably going to head over for a Chamois trip in March but it won't be in Fiordland that's for sure.

The spotter will be great for up on the tops and picking them out of the thick scrub.

I have read every article on the major NZ forums.
Contacted an NZ local who has drawn the block 3 times. Called the other party going in with me and the one going in prior to discuss tactics and plans.
Contacted an Aussie who drew the block last year and went into detail.
Watched every single video on youtube with 'Wapiti' in it.
Bought and read "Wapiti Hunting in NZ" by Simon Gibson.
Fitness regime stepped up.
Gear tested.

I will be ready!!!

Good stuff! Sounds like you have it sorted. Make sure to post how you go with the hunt. I'm not sure people realise what a great opportunity it is!
