I’m headed back to Alaska This September and was wondering if anyone had a moose magnet call laying around they would want to get rid of! If so shoot me a message. I’ve heard people use all kinds of bottles ect.. but the pitch is different from the magnet. Anyone have any personal experience with a home made call??

My very first moose hunt, the guide used a metal coffee can with a sting. He would wet the sting then pull on tightly making the sound. The can was the amplifier. He was probably the most effective caller out of all my moose hunts.

One old moose hunter in Canada told me that if you want to call in a moose all you needed to do was fire up a chainsaw and let it idle in a hole in the woods and stand downwind 100 yards. I literally laughed when he said it and then I looked at him and realized he was dead serious. lol

I've got several in the cabin left by folks tired of carrying them around. Pretty big n bulky. I use my hands. Heck I've found that I can use quite a few different things. A piece of plastic inch pex pipe makes for a nice call. Yeah I try different junk. Any more I have a empty plastic pint whiskey bottle. Cut off the bottom and stuff a stick in it. Works great as a scraper on brush or trees. Can be used to pour water imitating a cow peeing in water. And light n small enough to hang on the side of my backpack or wherever. And kinda nice to recycle
Moose can hear pretty good. And for what it's worth. I disagree that moose are kinda dumb. But maybe I'm just not as smart as a moose. I know I've been busted a bunch and had plenty of moose split because they were nervous. And they can dissappear fast
