Since a youngster will tote, and didn’t say age, in case young with shorter LOP, I will throw this out there. If you will need to shorten the stock and possibly lengthen later, the Tikka will prove easier in the long run. Love the Fieldcrafts and have had 4 of them, still own 3 of their Ltd run creeds, one of which is actually my youngest daughter’s rifle, got it for her when she was 8. Plan was to cut the stock down and have spacers made where it would fit her now and then we would add spacers as she grew. Initially didn’t want to cut it down, just too cool of a gun, then found a second one, so went to have a Smith do the stock work and he brought up that the pads not screwed on but glued. So not sure if sufficient density to the material inside to go with a screw on pad where we could easily add the preface spacers. Based upon the light weight, concern was not—so leaving it intact till she is older. Then found an article on cutting down a Tikka for a child that had detailed pictures of their whole process and quickly made up our mind for the right now rifle, The horizontal pillars the pad screws into on the tikka run all the way up the stock to the grip area, so you can easily cut down with confidence there is sufficient material to affix the new pad to. if you didn’t need to go too short, could also find accompany stock online as well. Anyway, since I just went through this search thought I was simply share some of what I learned. We haven’t gotten her new Tikka out to shoot yet, but if it shoots anywhere as good as the second Ltd run fieldcraft, she’ll be set.
