Wrist Intersection Syndrome

Have any of you dealt with this condition? My right wrist is killing me. I had a cortisone shot put in it about two weeks ago, and it improved for a few days, but it's back with a vengeance. The usual R.I.C.E. routine helps only temporarily. Just wondering if any has figured out the magic trick to cure this thing.

I was having wrist pain but turns out it was originating from my shoulder where I had inflammation and impingement going on. Found that Wilderness Athlete's Joint Advantage cleared up it up after just dealing with it for a couple years. Both of my parents now take it as well for various arthritic ailments. Might be worth looking into and not cost prohibitive to at least give it a whirl.

First things, first. What is your daily routine? Are you a weight lifter? Are you doing repetitive motion to cause this? You need to figure out why it's happening.
When I was hardcore weight lifting I had horrible wrist and shoulder problems. I was a strong guy, but I was lifting weights and adding muscle my body simply couldn't handle. Some temperance with that stuff naturally healed me.
People far too often treat the symptoms and not the cause.

I'm sure this is an overuse condition. I do lift weights 5ish days per week, although I haven't in the past two weeks. I drive a desk most of the day at work, and it seems that running a mouse has some adverse effects as well. The onset came after I spent a day setting up treestands, trimming shooting lanes and running a hedge trimmer. The next morning I noticed a swollen/sore area on my wrist. Google told me it was either De Quervain's or Intersection Syndrome. The doc confirmed intersection syndrome and added the cortisone. Trouble is, it's self-perpetuating. Inflammation causes tissue interference, intereference causes tissue inflammation, and so on.

I'm trying to get it to calm down before my elk hunt, which I leave for next Wednesday. Hopefully it settles down before then. I need to fling some arrows to stay ready for the hunt. Unfortunately, there's no magic remedy. Seems like time and rest will be the ticket.

Okay, sounds like you have a handle on causation.
Many of us can relate to this type of problem, and frankly the cortisone shot doesn't help things at all.
As you noted: R E S T.

Give the weights a break, and that isn't easy when it becomes habit! ....something to fill in for the typical work-out regiment.
Wrist injuries (and ankle, shoulder, etc.) can become insidious. If one can get them gone, do whatever is possible to keep them gone. Or sometimes they can remain for years or life.
I was doing 300 pushups a day and the wrist pain was ridiculous...so went to a set of cast barbells to do them from, this kept my wrist/hand straight, rather than bent. It meant all the difference--pain free.

Thanks for the feedback. You've confirmed what I suspected (no magic solution, as there seldom is). Six months ago, I made a significant change to my dietary lifestyle, basically cutting carbs to near zero. It has had a dramatic effect on overall body inflammation (reduced). At 40 years old, I've felt like a new man after having struggled with chronic shoulder and elbow inflammation for a few years. My elbows and shoulders feel superb; this wrist thing is brand new and quite frustrating, given the progress I've made in other areas, not to mention the terrible timing with a big hunting coming soon. But I get through it!
