If you keep it on the dash instead, realistically, how much does it cut performance vs an exterior mount? I'm sure some, but theft concerns might make dash use more prudent and storing it when away from the vehicle.

Those that use it in the suspended service mode ($5/mo), how many months at a time is it suspended and does it still work well enough for calls or text? It looks like there is a limit to how long it can be suspended at $5/mo.

For me, the use throughout hunting season and a few months in summer would be huge. The remainder of the year, suspending it would be a wise move, but there might be 1-2x a month it would be handy for calls or text during those suspended months. No streaming really needed and if checking emails and rokslide could be done on suspended that would be amazing, but probably not practical.

I have had mine mounted to the roof of my truck via the verits van magnetic mounts for 6 months and around 10k miles without issue.

I ran it on the dash for a while as well, and it was ok, but with a case and mount, it took up to much space in the windshield. I see a fairly high number of people running them from the dash though, usually just without a case or mount or anything. That isn't bad, but it does slide around some.

* Dont confuse 'Suspend' with 'Standby'.

* When a unit is in Standby Mode its stays that way until you change it [as of now].

* Calls and texts are superb [I mentioned this earlier] websites will load slow.

The Veritas vans magnet mount is pretty awesome, had my on for 2 trips from South Texas to Colorado and back. Lose cell service? never noticed connection was constant the entire trip. Only time i would lose service would be when getting fuel and sitting under the big awnings they have at the pump.

Theft is a concern, it would be simple for someone to yank that thing off when going inside a store or off and about hunting for the day/days. But, great thing is that the magnet mount is so simple anytime I go into a store I just reach up onto the roof unplug and put the dish inside the truck, usually on the floorboard of the drivers seat. Then when I return I plug it in and put right back up.

I run my cable in the seam of the door and windshield into the hood and then follow the other wires/cables into the cab under the pedals of the truck to my cigarette lighter on my dash. That way I can unplug easily from the inside when I park and don't want to drain my truck battery.

I had doubts about the magnets thinking there was risk of it not being strong enough to drive 80 on the interstate but there are 4 magnets and they have something like a 50 lb magnetic force each. I was quickly relieved of my worries when I smashed my fingers the first time I put it on the roof, those magnets sucked that sucker down and kinda hurt my fingers being stuck under. I'm now glad I didn't get the suction cups, those would probably be more of a pain.

There are other mount options like for a roof rack that you could put on the same mount for if you have the roof rack.

my cable lives in my truck now even though I don't keep my starlink on top unless I'm traveling somewhere out of town. It's out of sight and doesn't interfere with anything, I just keep it unplugged.

To me, and ideal set up would to be plugged into a second battery bank system in the bed of a truck mounted securely to a roof rack of a shell and it could just live there. But then again, that would make it more challenging to take off and plug in to a cabin or house or for camp when the truck may not be there.

I'm a low tech guy, but ordered the home service with the free mini. End of January the earliest they could do the free install was Feb. 14th. We have limited remote cell service where we live, so we can't download the app. to much for the towers. Hench let them install it. Just got an email yesterday that they billing us $120 for a months service because they shipped it to us the and it not even hooked up yet. Not to happy about that.

Our 12 volt power cord on the Mini we got in late Sept quit working after maybe 10 or 12 days of use in the camper. Appeared to me to be a loose or broken wire in the USB-C connector plug end that plugs into the large adaptor that goes into a 12 volt power plug (cigarette lighter receptacle).

We filled out a warranty claim on line this week and already have the replacement (two days)! Excellent service considering we live in Canada.

We like our Mini in the truck camper. Nice to have internet when we are camping off grid and out of cell coverage during big game and bird seasons, which we do a lot of.

As I've posted in here how awesome Starlink was when we had it, I was looking into it today for our house and once our promo for our current internet is done (even with our current internet being fiber internet, it's still garbage), I think we're going to switch back. I do like the option of having the free home install as well, even though I can very easily just do it myself, and potentially will when the time comes.

There isn't many, if any, downsides to having Starlink in my opinion.

Ill chip in here. My wife and I live pretty remote and have been using starlink for the past 3 years. Its great. We have had no issues with the internet besides regular power outage from time to time but the unit itself works great. My wife works from home and is on the computer answering phones all day. TV running at the same time, no problems. If i am not mistaken we pay $120 a month. Could be $5 more now because we have the mini on standby as well but haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Myself and many of the guys I guide with run them on our vehicles, both inside and out but unless you have a sunroof, it seems like outside is less of a pain. I have a magnetic mount from Savage UTV that I leave on my roof for months at a time. The version I have is pricey but it’s very secure when on the roof, while still being able to remove it easily if need be. They also have a suction cup option and a more permanent option for certain trucks that attaches to the rear brake light.

Dirt roads, highways, etc. all zero issues leaving it on while driving. I frequently am driving between Idaho and Arizona and can have full facetime calls at highway speeds in the absolute middle of nowhere. I use a 16ft cord ran through my rear window, under my seats and floor mats to my cigarette lighter for when the vehicle is on. When I get to camp, I can pop that cord out of the unit and run the original cord to my generator. Works great.
