Wow. I’m impressed with Starlink!

Had starlink when we were full time RV’ing, it was AWESOME!!! Fun fact, the dish can survive 2 falls from 12ft. I wasn’t finding out if it could a third, should’ve learned after the first but most of the time I’m not that smart.

Bought a Mini Star-Link back in September. Used it on a remote moose hunt and really liked it. No issues using it with the truck cab-over camper. I just set it up on the camper roof facing north....access is through the large hatch over the bed and power is off my 12 volt DC TV power plug.

We also have the 120 volt AC power supply cord and transformer and used it at home when we had a several day internet interruption. Again, perfect, seamless internet at home.

Will get a long test down in AZ later this month and in January.

Cool place man, I dig it. We have an off grid down on an island here on the gulf coast and I keep wanting to get Starlink for it but we have just enough cell signal to run a hotspot fast enough to keep that idea at bay.

When I saw it mentioned in the black Friday thread, I was a little surprised to see it priced above $100. I'd have signed up for several months if it were, but I remember when home WiFi just started and it seemed like an updated unit needed purchased every 6 months.

Who has had their original starlink for a few years?

I've had my Gen 2 since June 2022 and have used it all over the West camping/hunting and on Kodiak Island. I did ruin the cable from the router to the antenna by dropping one end of it in the sand. Didn't realize there was a small piece of sand inside the connector and plugged it in bending the very small contacts. Ordered a new '100 cable on Amazon for $40 and it's working great. I use it to check emails, stream TV and make wifi calls when I have no cell service.

I have one of the early releases 2021 I think? Still kicking, sent a new updated router no cost this week

Loved using mine for elk season this year. Was nice being able to FaceTime my daughter at the end of the day. Definitely helped with the homesickness I experience when I’m gone from my kids on my trips.

Ran it pretty easily with (2) 100W panels and a Jackery 1000. Will bring another 200W panel with me next time so we can watch some football during our September hunt next year.

Just ordered Starlink last week. For my area, they had a deal where I got the unit and install for free. Installation is happening next week.

My only experience with starlink was in at an Airbnb in rural Mexico (Yucatán) - far faster internet than we have at our rural home less than forty miles from Madison, WI.

I did a drop camp this year and the packer had a mini set up on his mule. Said he spends so much time in the backcountry it’s the only way he can stay connected to family.

I know the convenience and capability is awesome. And I think about having one for when I move and can't drive and have to work fully remote and hopefully that doesn't happen... But how do you guys get passed the fact that they're populating the sky with 50k satellites for this? Doesn't that bother you?

That's a lot better than what I have seen from a 12v setup so I did the POE injector and 48v conversion kit.
